About Me
I'm a 65 year old living in Toronto Canada. I started paper scrapping in the 1990s & switched to digital in the early 2000s.
I've been happily married for 35 years with 2 adult children. We have a married adult daughter & a late son. (He had multiple severe disabilities - nonverbal autism, severe intellectual disability, atypical bipolar disorder, epilepsy and was a XYY male. We lost him 5 years ago at age 25 to SUDEP - Sudden Death in EPilepsy). I consider him my greatest teacher. Graham's photo and memorial page are here: https://www.autismbrainnet.org/donor/graham-brown/ (The same photo and tribute are also on the North American SUDEP Registry Our Stories page which he shares with others. Graham's donation was a joint donation to both sets of researchers.)
I'm retired but originally a children's librarian (public library) and then a supply (substitute) teacher. My favourite classes to teach were kindergarten, grades 1-2, middle school and especially special education. I particularly liked teaching students with autism or intellectual disabilities or adhd or learning disabilities or who needed behavioural support.
My hobbies (other than digital scrapping and photography) are knitting, board gaming, reading, journaling especially bullet journals, fountain pens, listening to a wide variety of music, classic movies and foreign language films and cooking (low carb/keto now since it controls my Type 2 diabetes.) I have a big interest in history, geography and different cultures and read a lot in these areas. I mostly read nonfiction but I do enjoy science fiction and fantasy. My husband and I share our home with 3 rescue kitties.
I consider myself a beginner with scrapbook design and I am enjoying learning.

Description
By request, some elements for the Netherlands. These include a crest for the country, a flag flair/brad, a crest for Amsterdam and a paper featuring tulips. (From now on, I'll be including a flag/brad for countries I post. I'll also post brads for the countries for which I've previously loaded crests).
(For those who'd like to see all my designs including other travel crests and brads, my designs are here: https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/anne-maclellan/designs ).
The Netherlands is in northern Europe (also with 3 islands in the Caribbean). It's considered part of the "low countries". English speakers often incorrectly call it "Holland" when North Holland and South Holland are only 2 out of the 12 provinces. The most common language is Dutch followed by the regional language of West Frisan and several other regional languages. The Netherlands is a parliamentary democracy with a monarch.
This crest features a windmill behind a field of tulips. The Netherlands is very low lying and windmills were used to pump water out of the low lands and back into the rivers beyond dikes so it could be farmed. There are over 1000 windmills in the Netherlands. Although they originate in Turkey, the Dutch developed many varieties of tulips and they became so popular that it created the first economic bubble "Tulipmania" in the 17th century where people bought up tulips and used them as money. Eventually the market crashed.
Orange is the colour of the Dutch Royal family and strongly associated with the Netherlands. (A personal note: my elderly mom lives in a long term care home founded by a Dutch-Canadian association although we aren't Dutch. Every May 5th they celebrate the Liberation of the Netherlands from the Nazis by the Canadian troops and everyone wears orange.)
