2016 Summer Road Trip: Part 2

See the first part of the trip here.

On our way out of California we drove through Death Valley, the only national park we visited where the ranger urged us to stay in the car and not wander around too much. Summer was apparently in full swing.

By the time we reached Badwater Basin the thermometer in the car was up to 104°F (about 40°C)
and it was a hot walk out onto the salt flats.

In complete contrast to our previous night in the ghost town, this night found us in Las Vegas. A city of shocking excess, but surprisingly fun even if you're not a gambler. We had a great time just walking through the casinos and pointing at all the ridiculousness.

▲ Driving out of Las Vegas we stopped at the Hoover Dam, which was an impressive amount of concrete.

▲ Our route to Tennessee took us along historic Route 66, which made for some great stops
in places that would have otherwise been a bit plain.

▲ And into Arizona for the Grand Canyon.
