Creating a Layout With a Busy Background

I love interesting papers that have a lot going on, but personally I find them a bit challenging to work with. They can often feel dominating when used on a digital scrapbooking page. So in order to help challenge myself, and maybe you too, I've collected a few stunning layouts that use busy papers as their background. Let's give these papers the chance they deserve!

Heidi uses this bold polka dot paper as the background for this stunning layout. Creating a main focal point for the photo and elements helps give the background paper space to show off it's style.

I use a similar method here with this bold gingham pattern. The black and white also helps keep the paper from feeling too overwhelming.

Here Carmel uses a pattern that is both colorful and interesting, but the white areas of the paper help to keep everything from feeling like too much.

Kiana also makes good use of a busy paper, but with actual white space to help give your eye a rest.

In this digital scrapbooking layout I give nobody a break, but I do create a bit of a moment by using a white frame with a bit more space around it to help you find the photo.

Here Linda also isn't afraid to go for it, and I think this bold patterned paper makes quite a statement.

The subtler colors of this paper chosen by Tina creates a different vibe that the layouts created by me and Linda, and it suits the magical feeling of her photos.

I saw this stunning leaf paper when I was browsing around and I knew I wanted to use it, but it did take me some effort to get it done. Including subtle paper whenever else I needed to add papers helped, as did adding some paint behind my main focal point to tone down the pattern a bit.

In this stunning digital scrapbooking layout, Saskia only uses the busy paper on half the page, giving you a break and an interesting time all at once.

I hope you've found these layouts as inspiring as I have!

For such special papers I have an extra folder. Then, however, on the LO the elements must be sparing when my background becomes "loud". Often, however, I use brightness / contrast / gamma to let him shine like through frosted glass to allow the photo and few Embellis own appearance. He may then thematically only support.

I love pattern papers, but struggle to use them sometimes. These layouts have use them so well and the photos stand out ... I don't really achieve that look, so I will definitely be using these to help me better utilize pattern papers.
