Donation to International Rescue Committee

In December I sent out an email saying that Jordan and I have been challenged over the last few months to think about how DigitalScrapbook.com might contribute in some small way to help alleviate the current global humanitarian refugee crisis. As such we decided to pledge all new subscriber income between December 15th and December 25th to a charity benefiting refugee families.

I am pleased to announce that we received a number of new subscriptions during that period, including several larger yearly subscription payments, which came to over $900 in total. We decided to round the amount up to $1000, which we donated to the International Rescue Committee, a very transparent and well-managed charity founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein that offers "emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution or natural disaster."

Thank you to everyone who subscribed during this period to help make this donation possible!

Donation

(Note that in my original email I had said that we were planning to donate to the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR. The UNHCR is a fine agency, but we changed our minds based on data from Charity Navigator, which indicates that the International Rescue Committee--which has a similar vision to UNHCR--is a more efficient charity, and is also in greater need of funding. You can compare the data here and here. If anyone is concerned about this change, Just send me an email at [email protected] and I'd be happy to discuss the issue further.)
