My 2015 Photo Book

(The photo books featured in this post were provided free of charge by MPix for me to review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Well, something amazing has happened. Not only did I actually document an entire year in digital scrapbook layouts, I also managed to get them all printed out so I can enjoy my achievement in real life on my couch!

I know that for some of you the whole reason you are here is to, you know, record life. But ever since I switched to digital (which at this point is quite a while ago) I've just been kind of messing around with my layouts. 2015 was the first time I actually set out to scrapbook the whole year, and now that I can see the fruits of my labor I can tell you it was definitely worth it.

I managed to stay up to date thanks to the pocket page concept, which makes it super easy to include a bunch of random snapshots, which constitute most of my photographs these days.

Also, I kept to a regular schedule: every Saturday morning I'd collect my photos and thoughts from the week, and place them in a pocket page template. Splitting up this "laying out" process from the decorating helped me to stay on schedule since it only takes a few minutes to collect and lay things out. Then I can decorate at my leisure.

Thanks to my enthusiasm and the inclusion of a few trips that took up extra pages, I had to get the year printed in two volumes. I've mentioned Mpix.com before as a favorite place for photo printing; I've done basic photo prints, photo books and wall art, all to much success. They were kind enough to print out my not inconsequential 2015 project, and I was not disappointed. The 10x10 premium panoramic photo book is an excellent choice if you're looking to get your layouts printed out (I chose the matte paper for my photo book). I'm really enjoying the 10x10 size. I have a personal vendetta against my old 12x12 scrapbooks, owing to their excessive weight/size and my inability to put them on a bookshelf or on my lap. The 10x10 size still makes a statement, but is easier to look at and store on the shelf. I am really pleased with my collection of non-12x12 books I'm accumulating.

If you've been waiting around to get a photo book printed, for whatever reason (I know there's a lot involved in finally moving forward into this last step of the process), I've got a nudge that may help you: starting today, Saturday April 23rd, MPix is offering 40% off their panoramic books (the ones I shared with you in this post). It's a great chance to get your work printed out in real life in excellent quality, plus at 40% off--that's a great deal. (Offer runs 4/23 – 4/27, the discount will automatically apply at checkout.)

My complete 2015 project, if you're curious.

What a wonderful legacy to leave to your kids, and a wonderful book to renew all those memories and feelings experienced throughout the year! Thanks for sharing!

WOW! I am blown away by the magnitude of this project. With all your activities, you must be a time management specialist. I love the 2015 title page with the mini photos, many of which you close cropped. Its like telling a whole saga in an instant...and it makes a great artistic index. Bravo!

@Krissy: A good bit of the edges does get cut off. I've decided not to worry about this, because I find it too complicated to think about :) When you upload your pages to the online editor it will show what is cut off, so you'll have a good idea of what's getting cropped where. There is also a page template that I considered which makes a white border around the edges, which could be a good option if you're concerned about edges getting cut off.

This is beautiful!!! I just love the matte prints! Wow!!! I started doing books but due to expense, I had to stop. I now just buy page protectors and photo paper in bulk and print my own 8x8's with knock off ink. I would much rather have these great books, but it works and is still very nice. I also can print as I go.

@Marisa- thank you! Another question... I'm thinking about using Mpix for my photobooks, about how much do they trim off of the edges, if any?
