My Digital Travel Journal

In the past year I've been experimenting with Goodnotes on my iPad and seeing what kind of digital journals I can keep. One thing I've tried out is keeping a digital travel journal. Simpler than a scrapbook, I just add a few photos and bits and pieces as we're traveling.

I've found a big bonus to going digital for my travel journal, is not only do you have to carry a lot less stuff, but especially here in Mexico we get no paper ephemera. Often when you travel there's ticket stubs, maps, etc. But here we never get any little bits of paper. So going digital makes a lot of sense when there's nothing physical I'm trying to include. Also, it's a lot easier to browse the internet to look for interesting graphics to include from the places we've visited.

The hardest thing to get used to for me is not being able to shadow my elements. I generally have been using frames that are already shadowed and trying to convince myself that the no shadow look is okay. I may ultimately end up making some shadowed elements just for use in my travel journal.

The planner I'm using is from DPlanStudio. I do most of the journaling in the Goodnotes app on my iPad, with a little here and there done in the Photoshop app also on iPad.

What do you think? I like the informality of the journal background and I may see what other ways I can use it in the coming year.

Dafont is also one of my favorites too. I have several of their fonts on my IPAD because they are great for using the papers we get from this website and using a clipping mask to adhere them to the font in my layouts.

I enjoy the look of travelers notebooks, myself. I love to make digital journals as well. This is a very pleasant layout.

I absolutely love these layouts & this idea! I especially love the stamp? font? labels? you used for the locations. Would you be willing to share what you used? It's such a great retro look.

I love this! Thinking of so many things I could do. I am interested in learning how to do this!!! I've also wanted to learn how to make and use a digital planner.

This looks amazing!
Travel ephemera has become hard to come around... everything is gone digital. I have a traditional album of a trip I made to Rome that even uses the paper from menus I was gifted as base, but now all we get are QR codes. This is a good solution!

Hi There! I’m Marisa Lerin and you’ll see me around at DigitalScrapbook.com a lot. I started this site in 2010 soon after I discovered a new love in digital scrapbooking. DigitalScrapbook.com has gone through some significant changes since that time and it’s grown into this lovely community site you are seeing now. I’m originally from Minnesota, USA, but spent a good chunk of my childhood living abroad (in Bolivia and Hong Kong). I returned to Minnesota to attend university, got married and then moved overseas again (Korea, then Jordan and 1 year of traveling). My designs are heavily influenced by these many nomadic years. I am currently back in the USA, now living in the great state of Oregon!

I have no official training for what I’m doing, since I decided very wisely (haha) to study physics in university. I am always learning new things about digital scrapbooking, and this community has been immensely helpful for that!

If I manage to stop digital scrapbooking you will probably find me watching TV, reading or baking. I also enjoy writing for the blog here at DigitalScrapbook.com where I talk about whatever happens to be catching my fancy at the moment.
