Old Scrapbooks & A Sneak Peek
Yesterday I finally got set up to start scanning in all my old paper scrapbooks. I've been wanting to do this for a long time, but the immensity of the project has kept me from getting started. But I guess the air was extra special yesterday because I've made a start. And it's become clear that I will probably be scanning in pages for the next twenty years.
It's amazing to think that most of the photos in these books were taken with a film camera, and that these scrapped copies are the only copies of the photos I have. It's also a bit shocking how much my own scrapping style has changed. Going digital really allowed me to step things up several notches.
I'm sure I'll have more updates and thoughts as my scanning progress continues. But I just wanted to give myself a pat on the back for getting started. If you've made the switch from paper to digital, what has that meant for your paper scrapbooks?
Next week is the last week before we get into lots of Christmas excitement. Here's a little sneak peek of what's coming.

About Me
Hi There! I’m Marisa Lerin and you’ll see me around at DigitalScrapbook.com a lot. I started this site in 2010 soon after I discovered a new love in digital scrapbooking. DigitalScrapbook.com has gone through some significant changes since that time and it’s grown into this lovely community site you are seeing now. I am daily surprised by the turn of life’s events that has led me down this path. If you're new to the site, welcome! Here are a few tidbits about me that I hope will help you get to know me better!
I’m originally from Minnesota, USA, but spent a good chunk of my childhood living abroad (in Bolivia and Hong Kong). I returned to Minnesota to attend university, got married and then moved overseas again (Korea, then Jordan and 1 year of traveling). My designs are heavily influenced by these many nomadic years. I am currently back in the USA, now living in the great state of Oregon!
I have no official training for what I’m doing, since I decided very wisely (haha) to study physics in university. I am always learning new things about digital scrapbooking, and this community has been immensely helpful for that!
If I manage to stop digital scrapbooking you will probably find me watching TV, reading or baking. I also enjoy writing for the blog here at DigitalScrapbook.com where I talk about whatever happens to be catching my fancy at the moment.

Im sure you`ll keep going til you finish the last book..It never even crossed my mind to do that majority of all my books are 12 x 12 ...I can`t even make myself mess with paper scrapbooking and its sad because my craftroom is known as the money pit I don`t even make cards anymore ...sad very sad....Digi is too easy & soooo much fun that I don`t think I can ever go back to paper ;~}...
You have quite a project ahead of you but I bet you will be happy once you've got a good start on it. Send some of that special air over here.. I could use some. :)
nice
I giggled to myself when I saw this post! You will most definitely be scanning for the next 20 years! lol!
While I am the biggest fan of digital scrapbooking, I have a rule of thumb when it comes to digital and traditional scrapbooking. Like everyone else, I have tons of traditional photos--before I bought the first digital camera in 1999. I have even more digital photos. I do not have time to go back and scan the "old" photos, so my rule of thumb is that traditional printed photos will be scrapped traditionally (since I have tons of paper supplies that I also use for cardmaking) and digital photos will be done digitally. I can always take a photo of or scan the traditional scrapped pages and turn them into a digital copy for my archives. I think my time is better spent focusing on organizing and using my digital photos going forward. Good luck to you all who are undertaking that monumental task of scanning all your old photos!
omg what a mission! good luck with that! I spent forever scanning in all my photos onto my old computer and finally finished the day it died! ...Shoulda backed up! Now I have to redo them all onto this computer and I just KNOW it's never going to happen! But I am doing some one at a time as and when I need one to do a layout with :) ...BACK UP as you go lol
Nah, you´ll take less time than you imagine, I´m sure. Gogogo Marisa!
And... I LOVE this sneak peek! So pretty bright colors!
You're a super hero! From 1995-2007 or so I paper scrapped. In 2008 I decided I would make the switch from paper scrapping to digital. I was overwhelmed by fear of PhotoShop, though, so I kept putting it off! Consequently, I didn't do ANY scrapping for a few years! :( In 2011 I finally decided to skip PhotoShop and use an easier program (I went with My Memories Suite) and started two books "current" scrapbooking and "back-tracking" through the empty years, lol! Just last week I finally finished the backlog, and now I'm back at my paper books. I definitely want to scan them in, but like you said, it seems like such a huge undertaking! :( I don't have a big enough scanner and I do NOT want to have to "stitch" a million pages together! After I figure out where I can scan them, I guess I'll just start on year at a time! Thanks for taking one for the team and showing that it CAN be done! ;)
I love a physical paper product and I hate that most of my photos have no "hard copy" any more but at the same time I worry about the old film photos as they have no digital back-up so I need to scan my old ones in but - as you said - that is a mammoth task!! One day ... ??
I sooooo missed paper scrap booking,i loved doing it and have many unfinished scrap books in my closet.Maybe one day i will get them out and tag a pic with my digital camera, like you have have many pictures that were taken with a way back when camera, lol, some were good and some were not.
I still have a ton of paper scrap booking items, like paper,stickers,tools,brads,ribbon,etc,etc.....tons.I had to place everything in bins and in my closet as we ran out of space in our home, once everything went into the closet it wasn't easy pulling it out and putting it back,so i didn't even bother. One day when i'm old and bored and all my children are gone i may take everything out and finish my children's albums.
I recently got involved in digital scrapping booking, even tho designing has been a part of my life in many ways, even making signature tags for online friends, but i really never made any layouts or scrap kits until i joined digitalscrapbook.com,you know what,i just remembered,i made one or two with my youngest daughters pic's two yrs ago.I am really not into layouts much,i don't really have a whole lot of time for them, however, when i do get a chance i will make some really nice ones.
Good luck with all the scanning! I have plans of doing similar and try to photograph new layouts as I make them these days but doing the "back catalogue" is a mammoth task!
