Pockets in Real Life: Korea Edition

I recently finished up a new paper pocket album, with photos from the 2 years we lived in Korea. It was enjoyable and a little bittersweet to go back and revisit these photos. Korea for some reason is the only place I actually get homesick for, and looking back through all these photos and memories was a special experience.

Also, I really love working in the pocket format, which obviously I can't say enough because I mention it here about every other post :). But I love the creativity that comes from working within the constraints placed by the different pocket sizes, and the mental exercise of "thinking outside of the pocket." I'm definitely looking forward to catching up on old memories using both paper and pockets.

For this album I used a regular binder that I bought at Staples. (I used the kraft version, but there are other options.) These binders are unusually tall, so 12x12 pocket pages cropped horizontally fit. I like that this album was both cheap (why are scrapbook albums so expensive?) and less bulky than regular albums. Now that it's finished it does not weigh 100 pounds, and since it's a bit less wide, it's more comfortable to hold. It does not fit on my shelf super well, but it's better than a full 12x12 album would be.

I made pocket cards for all the different cities we visited, in both English and Korean. I used a few other Korean phrases throughout the book and at first I was a little concerned about my translation skills (looking at you Google translate and Wikipedia), but I consoled myself that no one who could actually read Korean would look at it. Then, the first person I showed it to was Korean! Luckily, it seemed to pass the test. Phew!

I made a little flip through video as well so you could have a look at the whole thing if you're interested.
