Pockets In Real Life: School Days Edition

After the success of my first pocket album, I've been busy working on a few more. It's been a much more rewarding process redoing all these old scrapbooks than I was expecting. For one thing, I'm really excited to actually look at them myself and show them to people, rather than hiding them in a dark corner. Also, working with the old photos has been really enjoyable and it's made me reconsider my previous stance of considering a project "done". It's obviously a good goal from a practical view point, but I love some of these old photos and in considering them "finished" I miss the chance to work with them and enjoy them in the process.

Also, taking apart my old work and making it into something new has been really freeing. I feel totally free to just do whatever I feel like in these albums, and if I don't like it down the road, I can just do something new! What an idea!

The photos for this album actually come from two old scrapbooks. I sort my life by what country I was living in, rather than year or age. (If you want to know when I did something, I can tell you what country it was in, and hope you can figure from that what the time period is...) So it's been really strange for me to see all these photos in one album together. A totally new perspective. If you look closely at the photos, you may notice that I attended three schools on three continents (and managed two high school diplomas, a unique feat). And here they all are together! I couldn't have done something like this initially, as I was scrapping my life as it happened. Now I can go back and see how all these events come together. There's definitely something to the idea of revisiting old photos and projects to make something new.

What an amazing album! I love the fact that you now feel 'free' to create and re-create as it pleases you. I think I need to consider that a little.

I love how you incorporated your letter into one of the pages! I've wondered what I would do with my daughter's, other than keep it in a box. This is a great way to keep it visible! Thanks for sharing. :)

Wow, what a big adventure your life has been and continues to be! The idea of redoing albums felt so alien to me but now I can see the advantages and I guess that is what I am doing too when I take treasured ephemera out of my old diaries to include in scrapbook pages. Thank you for sharing your journey and ideas, they are always so inspiring.
