New: DigitalScrapbook.com Manifesto

By Marisa Lerin Wed, 09/18/2013 - 12:52

DigitalScrapbook.com didn't just spring up as a random weekend hobby: rather, it has always had a strong foundation of intentionality. For me and Jordan this site is about more than digital scrapbooking, forums, and freebies: it's a place for us to live what we believe with regards to pursuing creative work and empowering others to do the same, with regards to generous distribution and licensing, and with regards to fostering a spirit of abundance. We believe that creativity is important, that creativity wants to be generous, and that optimism is better than pessimism if given a choice.

I think you can see our philosophy at work throughout DigitalScrapbook.com, from the daily "choose your own" freebies to our positive TOUs, but we thought it was time to get some of these thoughts down on paper, so we've written up a first draft of a DigitalScrapbook.com Manifesto. You can read it online, or download the PDF.

This is a first draft, so it's still a bit rough around the edges, but feel free to leave a comment, or send us an email with your feedback: we always love hearing from you.

As a side note, I'll just say that if the manifesto resonates with you, and you believe in what we're trying to do here, if you've enjoyed all the freebies and our positive TOUs, please consider supporting us by becoming a subscriber. DigitalScrapbook.com will only be able to exist as it is, in the long run, if you're willing to help us keep this dream alive.

New Designer: Janet Scott

By Marisa Lerin Mon, 09/16/2013 - 10:15

We promised a new designer when we reached our first 100 subscribers, and I'm super thrilled to welcome Janet Scott to our design team here at DigitalScrapbook.com!

Janet has been active in our community for a while, you've seen her layouts in the gallery and downloaded her parts to the blog train, and now she's here to bring you even more wonderful designs. Here's a little bio she wrote to introduce herself:

Hi there, I'm Janet and I'm so absolutely thrilled to be a part of this wonderful crew here at DigitalScrapbook.com. I originally hail from a small town in central Minnesota. My husband and I (who've been married for 10 years this year) have moved countless times, but at the moment have put down roots in southern Minnesota. In the last ten years we were blessed to become the parents of our two beautiful, sweet, caring, and very often spunky girls.

When I'm not spending time with my dear hubby and girls, I keep busy with all things photo and scrapbook related. My photography business was born following the birth of my sweet daughter Annelyse. After nearly a year of being a 'momarazzi' (to which my friends and family can attest), it seemed natural to begin taking photos for other families. Though I'd done traditional scrapbooking prior to having babies, I didn't really dig in to digital scrapbooking until after the very premature birth of our Sophia. Long weeks at home avoiding illness led to my need to find a way to channel creativity. Now that both of our girls are healthy and taking on the world (my eldest is actually going to preschool this year) business and family life are keeping me pleasantly busy.

I ran across Pixel Scraper years ago and downloaded a few things. Though admittedly, I didn't have the knowledge of Photoshop (or other editing programs) to actually put the goodies to use. So they sat on my hard drive until I developed the needed skills via my photography business. In 2012 I was thrilled to run across the site again. They were in the midst of a complete overhaul. Now along with being a great resource for gorgeous designs (as it has always been), the site has become a supportive community where people share resources and knowledge. I can honestly say (and I said this before becoming a designer here) that it is by far my favorite online digital scrapbooking site. I'm so grateful to be a small part of this growing and developing online community.

For her first contribution to DigitalScrapbook.com, Janet has made this wonderful back to school bundle. There are so many wonderful additions to this. If you're a DigitalScrapbook.com subscriber you can download all of these kits right now (click here to become a subscriber for unlimited downloads)! Otherwise, the assets will be making their way onto the site over the next week or so. To help with that, I'd like to welcome Christy Cole to the team as Janet's new upload helper. Thanks Christy!
