I have started scrapping 8 X 8, I was going through my craft stash and found a treasure trove of 8 x 8 photo books with the plastic sleeves. Plus, I can still print them on my printer. It is easy to size dow the 12 x 12 background papers too
Thank you, Teddy, for pointing me here. I usually scrap 8.5x11" when I'm doing physical books, but I'm new to digital. I expect I'll do mostly hybrid, and the occasional all-digital scrapping will probably be a bit more outside the box.
I do all of my layouts 8 1/2 x 11. When I get them printed out I used to use HP photo printing software but they don’t exist anymore. Looking for a new company. I like to use about 100 pages.
Are you looking for a photo book or do you print out individual pages? I found a small print shop that prints mine as "posters", but I just put them in page protectors so that works for me.
I scrap with 8.5x11 pages because they are easier for me to store and print. nice to see I'm not the only one. Wonder who started the 12 x12 trend.... The scrap book paper making companies that existed long before digital became a thing?
I mostly scrap 12x12 but I've done a few rectangular pages too, either Letter sized (8.5x11 if I'm correct), 6x8 and even an occasional A4 (mostly, those were done while being on a CT).
Switching to A4 has crossed my mind several times, especially after seeing Gaëlle's gorgeous layouts ! The reasons for switching to A4 would be to print at home. I can't print 12x12s at home and the truth is, my albums mostly just sit in my laptop and hard drives and cloud folder and we hardly look at them all together like we did when I was a kid with the family photo albums.
I've ordered a couple of square photobooks with my pages but I'd love to be able to print at home, put into regular page protectors and binder and voilà, done, here's an album that can be looked at quickly on a whim... on the other hand, as I have so many 12x12s there's a strong pull to keep doing 12x12s so that all my pages are the same size !

As soon as I switched to digital I switched to 8.5 x 11 (Canada still used letter paper as the standard then) because I wanted to be able to print my art journals and travel scrapbooks. When I moved to South Korea in the late 90s it was an easy transition to A4! Plus there was nothing available for that sort of physical scrapbooking here. So now the default setting for me is A4 no matter what I'm designing. My oracle cards are either 6 to an A4 sheet or 4 to an A4 sheet. I have to remember when I'm creating projects for my mother (back in Canada) to open up the Letter paper settings now!
I would never go back to 12 by 12. Yes, you have a lot more space to design in, but they are so bulky... I do love my physical washi tapes and beautiful stickers, vintage ephemera, and so on, but I'm learning how to create my own or scan in the CC0 items to make infinitely reusable and sharable digital resources. #A4forever!

Are there any 8.5x11 kits? I'm thinking of going to this size so I can print at home. I'm making my own junk journal kits but i'd like to have ready made 8.5 kits to use as well.
You don’t see a lot of precropped papers I think because it’s easy enough to crop them. Some of my older print kits have PDFs with papers ready to print.

I can't print them myself but I used to get photobooks made. I designed the covers and everything and they usually held about 100 pages.
