5 Steps to Better Journaling If You Hate Journaling

I am not great at journaling. I find it a tedious process and honestly I'm not often interested in the results. But there are certain advantages to at least having a little something recorded on your layout. Here's a quick list for how I get around my aversion to journaling.

1. First of all, don't feel guilty! If journaling is keeping you from scrapbooking, just leave it out. But also remember that just including a short sentence or a little list can be easy and can say a lot more than nothing.

2. Make a list. While I would never write a paragraph about what we're doing right now, I could totally make a list with that as its title. I can handle making a list for the grocery store, and I can handle making one for my scrapbook as well.

3. Keep it short. I've managed to keep a daily journal for years by simply limiting the amount of space I have and the amount I'm expected to write in it. I'm tired at the end of the day but I can manage a few short, barely sentences.

4. Create a frame template that already includes a text box. I use this on my weekly pocket spreads. The text box is already there, so it doesn't take much effort to type a short sentence about the photo.

5. Try something strange. I've been writing haikus for about a year, and I find it a much more enjoyable journaling process than a more traditional approach.

If you know of any resources or prompts for capturing new angles when journaling, let me know! I'm interested in capturing (simply!) things I might not normally think to take note of.

Marisa, those are great tips. Personally, I love journaling but then (as you know) I tend to be a wordy little woman. LOL.
The past couple of years I have learnt to hoard my energy for later (now!) so I started just noting in the properties of a photo a one or two word expression of my emotional reaction to the moment/scene or why it is important to me. GPS on photos now makes it much easier to locate where you took the picture but you can also write your own description in the 'location' option on this tab.

Great list! I don't journal on my layouts because, well...I don't know. LOL I journal on my computer every day, sometimes multiple times a day.

You could always try buying a few writing prompt books. Granted, they are more for fiction, which I write as well, than every day life, but I find them easily interchangeable.
