Scraptorial - Make-A-Kit Extravaganza (Day 24 - Radiant Gradients)

"Radiant Gradients" is the last Scraptorial I have for the Make-A-Kit Extravaganza. Days 25-28 will be all about quality control, making previews, packing everything up into zips and sharing download links. (I know-UGH-but it has to be done so you can start on ANOTHER kit!) smiley I am also working on a fun "Certificate of Completion" for all the intrepid designers that have gone on this journey with me and have made a fabulous kit! I am ridiculously excited about it, so don't tell me if you don't care about having one to commemorate this occasion. smiley Anyone who shares a preview or previews and tells us where we can download their creation will be eligible, and I am super-excited to see anyone who crosses the finish line do just that! No end date, so no pressure. Just whenever you get done, I will be there to applaud your efforts, shake your virtual hand and present you with your certificate suitable for framing. smiley

Resources for Gradients:

Want more gradients for your stash? (I know! Silly question.) I did a browser search for "free PS gradients" and found a wealth of them available for snagging. Here is a link to a bunch that are available on myphotoshopbrushes.com, but that is just one link I found.

Want to create your own gradients? I found a very thorough article on photoshopessentials.com about editing an existing gradient to reflect the colors and style you are envisioning for a project. I am definitely wanting to try that out in the near future.

Day 24 Challenge: Create something with a gradient component if you haven't already. Make an element or paper or word art and give it a gradient style. Or whatever else you can dream up. You could also make an actual set of gradients following the instructions I shared in the resource links. As always, if gradients don't appeal to you, feel free to skip this prompt and start quality-checking your creations and packing up your kit.

I'll have to have a look at this; I've never actually used the gradient presets, I've only ever used the gradient tool in PSE with 2 colours from whatever palette I'm working with. Although there are 5 different ones to choose from there (linear, radial, angle, reflected and diamond), I usually use either linear or radial, because I don't really like the look of the other ones.

Flat, untextured paper made with two colours from the Ho Ho Holy Night palette, and using PSE's Linear Gradient Tool:

The same gradient can look completely different, depending on the textures you use.

Here it is, from DTD_DSDC_HHHN_PK16_TexturedGradients01_Fabric_CU

And from DTD_DSDC_HHHN_PK17_TexturedGradients02_Marble_CU

And, finally, from DTD_DSDC_HHHN_PK18_TexturedGradients03_Watercolour_CU

(Fabric one made with Coffee Shop Fabric Maker action, Marble one made with PSE marble background, and Watercolour one made in Jixipix Watercolor Studio Pro)

The radial gradient is especially good for flowers:

(Extracted element template made from a photo my daughter took, used two of the HHHN palette colours)

And now I've just checked out your creations... Annette, you have really outdone yourself with these ones - they are simply stunning!

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to follow along with the Scraptorial, though, it all depends on what settings PSE has. Wonderful inspiration, though!

That gradient on the marble texture came out so interesting, I am going to have to try that sometime. The flower is so pretty!

Wow Annette, some amazing gradients. You have such great ideas. Thanks for sharing!!

I already had a couple gradients, but I added a yo-yo...which I had not heard the name of until your scraptorial.

Thank you, Tricia.

So pretty!

I played around with creating gradients on my own in PS. It was sheer luck it worked! lol I definitely have to play with it more, as well as in PSP, so I can exactly match whatever palette I'm working with.

Thanks so much. Annette, for all the tips and tricks during this Extravaganza! It has genuinely helped me to learn more about Photoshop. smiley

These are beautiful, Lisel!

Loving that frosty one in the top right. Cool idea to use different fonts for the word cloud!

Thanks, Robyn! And I'm sorry, I didn't mention in that post that I used two of your textures! Sorry! I'm packaging up the whole thing, and you are definitely in the credits there, just didn't mention it here. smiley

Thanks, Christina! I used one of Robyn's textures for that top right paper, and also the bottom right one.
The different fonts were on the WordClouds.com options.

It's good to see people using my things "in the wild"!

You're quite welcome, Lisel. Wordclouds.com has tons of font options. as well as all sorts of other options--you just have to play around with the settings. I tried uploading several fonts to CreativeFabrica's word cloud generator, but each time a message popped up saying not all characters were available, so it wouldn't apply the font. Really strange since I didn't use any punctuation; it was all letters. (shrugs)

Should we make a scrap kit to scrap our virtual certificate? HAHAHA. That might be cool!
