Coming in October: Designer Madness!

I'm excited to announce that in the month of October we'll be hosting a Designer Madness! Join us and create your own digital scrapbooking kit throughout the month. Prompts will be posted daily giving you instructions for what to create and by the end of the month you'll have a finished digital scrapbooking kit. Work at your own pace and your own skill level. Beginners are welcome!

If you want to join us you'll need to do the following before we begin on October 1:

  • Choose your color palette.
  • Brainstorm/create a mood board for your theme.

Let us know below if you're planning to join us and feel free to share as you work through the getting started prompts.

I'll do my best to check in daily to answer any questions, and I'm sure other experienced designers in the community will help when they can as well. I'm hoping everyone finds this it be a fun and educational challenge!

You are not required to share anything you make as a freebie, you are welcome to do with it whatever you like. I will post a sharing thread at the end so you can link to wherever it may be available for download (if you choose to make it available.)

You can't work ahead, as the prompts will be posted daily, but feel free to catch up as you have time.

--------

If you haven't joined our Discord channel for chatting, now is a great time! It will be the perfect place to live chat with people while you're working, ask questions (it pings my phone so I can answer more quickly) and maybe we can even do some live streams to answer certain questions. I created a new chat thread for the Designer Madness, feel free to start chatting palettes and themes.

Directions for joining are here.

This sounds like a fun challenge. Count me in!

Hope to do this if my schedule works out.

Oh wow! I wasn't wanted to give it a shot to design elements for photographers and digital artists...Cool.

That sounds awsome! smiley smiley

I found my color palette ... and my general theme "Autumn is my favorite color!" I aspire to designing but lack the confidence.

I think I'm going to give this a shot.. I'm excited to join in!

Oh wow! Love this idea!! Can't wait!! smiley

I'm in! Sounds great! My theme is Time and Seasons. Used Canva to make a Mood Board.

@Poki, you can do this!!! I know for sure!

Count me in too.

I think I would like to try this challenge

Even extremely beginner? smiley I’ve never designed a thing in my life, but I just took a picture today that I thought might make a good paper and was wishing that I could design a kit around it.

Oh, I'm IN!

And to any and all that are nervous to design, PLEASE DO IT!

I had wanted to design for YEARS, but never did because I was afraid that either no one would like what I made, or that I wouldn't be able to do it in general, or that I'd have to buy specific software for it.

But I found out, my fears were just that, FEAR, and not reality!

And I can't STOP designing now!

I LOVE DESIGNING!
(I started about 2 years ago, and haven't looked back.)

Be encouraged, everyone!

Oh this sounds like fun! You can count me in.
I've been wanting to jump in but feel so intimidated so maybe this will get my feet wet and I'll grow some webs and start swimming. I'm sure I'll need help and a little land holding if someone is interested in helping because I know very little here ...lol

Here is my color pallet

Sounds like fun. smiley

I'll give it a go.

I'm going to try to do this. I haven't had time to design for a few months. Between work and my large garden, there just hasn't been time. That should wrap up about the time this starts, so hopefully I can keep up.

I second Saskia and Lisel's point: This is a great way to get your feet wet into the world of designing. As Marisa stated, it's one step at a time and you're only designing one element/paper per day. Take a few minutes for self-care (time alone) and create something great that you can be proud of by doing yourself.

Also, I know lots of people use Photoshop, and I'm way too new at it to help others, but if anyone is using Paintshop Pro, I can help you there.

I use mostly PSP but I do have PS and Affinity that I try with but don't know well enough.

@Deana Don't be afraid to send me a private message. I'll help as much as I can with PSP. smiley

Oh my gosh! I can't wait!

Question on choosing a color palette: Should it be fall colors?

Thank you Christina. You may regret you said that rofl jk

LOL You're welcome, Deana. I'm not worried about any and all questions you may have. That goes for anyone else who may be reading this. smiley

This sounds like fun! I haven't designed in 2 1/2 years. Hopefully by October most of my renovations will be done and I'll have some time to design a little. I have Photoshop Elements 21 which was a big jump from 10 so I'm still learning where everything is, but I'm sure I'll be able to help with this program for those that have it.

Oh my goodness. What a good challenge. I know so little about designing, but there may be no better way to learn. Count me in, but expect lots of questions.

I might give it a go smiley

Why not ?! I would like to try the experiment smiley and then, with a little help, it could be very interesting. As I love big challenges ... The first challenge will be to understand well because I have a lot of trouble with English, I waste a lot of time with the translators who are not really at the top smiley . Thanks for this opportunity. I already learned a trick in this post: you need a mood board (I guess so as not to scatter). Never thought it was necessary LOL. In short, the ridiculous does not kill, I am embarking on this challenge smiley

I think I'm satisfied with my palette and theme. I might change up the palette by the time October comes around. I haven't made a mood board yet, but I'm going with winter, as I can't wait for it to finally arrive. lol

This is shaping up to be a really great challenge. I'm very happy so many others have decided to join and take part. smiley

Christina - your palette is lovely! Of course, I gravitate towards lots of blues anyway. smiley

The timing of this was perfect - I’ve been traveling these last few days and was able to purposely take photos to use for my mood board/theme. We’re leaving this morning, so I’ll see what I can do about getting that and my palette together soon.

@Becky Thanks! I realized I hardly ever use blues in my palettes. That was one reason why I wanted to make a winter kit. smiley
