Item Alignment for Elements

This has been bothering me for awhile now. I recall seeing them, but have no clue if it was on an old version of PSE or a downloaded full version of Photoshop. I want to call them "snap grids". Green (and possibly red) lines that will show you when the layers are aligned. Is there ANY way of doing this on PSE 2018? Or at least an easier way to do so, without "eyeballing" it?

I'm not sure..sorry. I had PSE 15 then upgraded to 2020. I am not aware of an alignment feature with red or green lines...at least not that I can remember.

There is a way to align.

The positioning of the tool may not be the same, in my PSE 2020, that tool is at the bottom of my screen. Or I guess you could just leave the grid on? sometimes I do that to check a spacing. HTH!

It's possible you're thinking of Smart Guides or something like that. I don't use PSE myself, but I do use Photoshop, and under the View menu are options to "Show" various things that would help with alignment. If I turn on "Smart Guides" I get purple lines that show when I've lined up layers using the Move Tool. And I know I've seen the green alignment lines in Illustrator. I would start by checking if you have a View menu and what options are available there if you do.

Yeah, it's Smart Guides that you're thinking of. To turn them on in Photoshop, it's under View>Show>Smart Guides.

In PSE, you don't have Smart Guides, but the align panel has been in the Expert photo editing mode since at least PSE 11, under options for the Move tool. There's a tutorial HERE that uses PSE 11.

I went to View and noticed Guides was not an active "link", but gray and had a check by it. Playing around with the controls, I discovered that if I go to New Guide, it will create a guide in blue that can be set in horizontal or vertical and moved around the page. This also made the Guide an active "link". When I adjust my layers, they have that 'magnetic' pull towards the line. I can make as many as I need and toggle them on and off.

Although it wasn't the same concept I was remembering using (somewhere, years ago), it'll definitely work. Thank you for the tips!!!

If your rulers are turned on you can pull a guide down/over from the ruler and place it where you want it... Just hover your Move Tool over the ruler at the top or side of your layout, left click, hold and drag to the desired location.
