Hi all. I'm brand new to the entire scrapbook thing, not just digital scrapbooking. I've gotten a bundle or two from this site and there are pocket cards and pockets and journal cards, etc.
I think I understand journal cards, a place to add text about the layout. But I don't understand pockets and pocket cards in scrapbooking. Could someone fill me in, please.
Thanks,
Lesley
PS. I'm obviously also new to the forums and I wasn't sure how to search the forums because I'm sure this has already been discussed.
Hi Lesley! Welcome!
You are correct about journal cards - they create a great blank space to tell a story, and add an extra photo and a story. Have you seen any pocket card-style scrapbook pages? A while ago a product/way of scrapbooking was introduced where you tuck your pictures and these cards - the journaling ones or the pretty "filler" cards into pockets to create a scrapbook page.
I use the pocket look to create my yearly family album. I have a lot of my pages shared here in the gallery if you'd like to take a look. I do it all digitally and then print it into a book at the end of the year. There are also ways to do so physically, but since you're here, I assume you'd be doing this digitally. There are great templates available for download for you to try out - THESE from Marisa would be a great place to start if you want to try it for yourself.
I'd be more than happy to help you get started, give you a few tips, or just answer questions!
Your pages are gorgeous!
I will definitely take a look at those templates and play around. I'm definitely not cut out (no pun intended) for paper scrapbooking. I lack the organizational skills that would be needed to keep everything straight.
Thanks so much for your reply. I have a feeling this is going to be a fun trip down the rabbit hole. And I laughed at your profile. I also am a serial crafter but this is my first non-food foray into a craft outside of fiber. I knit, spin, weave & sew for the most part though I have gone through cross stitch and crochet phases. I make soap and cheese, too. I just have to hook up with someone with cows and sheep and I'm ready for the apocaplypse.
Thank you!
There's lots of other pocket style templates here on the site - lots of different options for you to try too! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
I feel like every crafter is a serial crafter. It's hard to just have one hobby when there are SO many options! I look forward to seeing your upcoming pages. Have fun down the rabbit hole! Don't eat or drink anything strange, you never know what'll happen!
Lesley, I did a blog post about pocket scrapbooking in the Campus.
Many journaling cards are on that format too, so you can use them in different ways, even if not using "pockets": How to use Journaling cards
And there was even a Master Class on it: Pocket Scrapbooking with PSP. I think you can still access it.
Oh thanks, Carole. I'll check that out.
