MMM #1 - January 2025

I thought I might try something a little new this year. I couldn't decide if I should post this here or in the Designer Challenges forum, but as I'm hoping to run this pretty regularly I thought I'd put it here so all the blog train fans can see it.

I personally am going through a big mixed media phase and I wanted a challenge to help me focus on that. Also, I tend to work quite far ahead in my design schedule to keep on top of things and I wanted the chance to make something in real time. So I'm starting the new Mixed Media Monthly Challenge.

Every month I will have a new word set as the theme. If you have any words you'd like to see, please leave them below in the comments. I am pulling the colors from one larger palette, so everything for the year should coordinate.

I will post a separate finished list so you can just share your download link if your contribution is available for download. Below share any general comments or questions about this new challenge.

nice!!! here are some quick ideas, hope you find some of them interesting. I'm using google translate so not sure about all the words oops

feelings
- loneliness/weariness
- pain (moral or physical distress)
- joy (of simple everyday things but also extraordinary/unexpected ones)
- friendship/animosity
- disappointment/satisfaction

generations
- old age and its consequences: physical, moral, family (ok I'm part of the lot LOL)
- adolescence (with its problems and/or its relationships with loved ones or elders)
- young children (occupation, education, but also good or difficult consequences on the family, yes we must not hide our faces)

the earth
- pollution and its consequences (terrestrial and human)
- natural disasters (more and more frequent) fires, floods, tornadoes, etc.
- preservations (places, animals)
- simple and rare beauties (I don't really know how to explain it, an example comes to mind: a wild flower that grew in a concrete crack in the city .... yes, it happens. Or an animal that we hadn't seen for a long time in the forest) so unexpected

food
- cooking
- baking
- home-made (even with its failures, it could be fun LOL)

activities
- DIY/repair
- knitting/crochet
- sewing
- games (board games/individual games like crosswords, sudoku etc/treasure hunts/track games ...)
- overbooked/bored

smiley smiley Such gorgeous colors!

I love this idea!

How about "WEDDING", ....

Love this idea. Great word to kick it off with.
Mindfulness
Grace
family

I also love this idea and the color palette! smiley

Love the idea and the colors smiley

More and more I find myself leaning on the word grace. With the state of things right now in the world, my family, my church, etc. I find God's grace is my comfort. These colors will work *very* well for what I have in mind for that theme. Thank you!

Great idea! Thank you for starting this. How about "reflection"?

Terrific idea! I'm playing with mixed media a lot too.

Marsia, would you consider offering these on the 15th? That way people can offer two freebies a month on blogs. Thanks,

@Robin: This will be more "instant" than the regular blog train. I already posted the finished list so people can add and share their links right away. Personally I want to have something that's not scheduled months in advance and reflects my current state.

@Sharin: If you don't mind keeping with the word this month "Delight." Each month I'll pick a new word.

@Chitra: We already have a wedding theme going on next month in the regular blog train. The MMM challenge will likely be more abstract. The colors may have some overlap, but you'd be surprised what a difference changing out a couple colors can make.

Thanks for all your enthusiasm!!!

OK! smiley

Marisa, the more I think about it the more I like the "instant." I'm beyond excited! I'm going to include a blog post every month with a mixed media tip.
I'm currently working on a blog post to announce the new blog train.. I'll be posting it soon along with the freebie over this weekend. Thanks so much!

@Marisa, I will definitely do that. smiley

Oh my!! I could not love mixed media scrapbooking any more than I do! Most of my layouts lean toward mixed media/art journaling, etc. I can't wait to create some fun things for this.

This is marvelous! Thank you so much, Robin!❤️❤️❤️

(The below post is copy pasted from the MM #1 Links thread where I mistakenly posted the images without links...I will add the links soon.)
Hi Marisa,
I hardly have any experience with mixed media, and what I understand from google is that it's an image which contains a mix of stuff, paint, paper, fabric, etc etc. But I wanted to try and below are three trials, but they're AI (hope it's OK), so I don't know if they're OK or what you had in mind for this challenge...

Please let me know if I'm on the right track...btw, the images are not in keeping with the given colour palette, because I'm unsure as how to get AI to create an image with a given hex code, I tried including it in the prompt but didn't work so well...will keep trying.

If someone knows how to prompt with hex codes, please let me know...Thank you in advance! smiley

What a great idea Marisa and this will challenge my creativity LOL. Love the dusky colour palette. Robin your kit is beautiful and Chitra yours are gorgeous with your leaning towards Shabby Chic. I love Mixed Media but I have never tried to put together a kit in this genre so yeah something new to learn. Love it!

I'm working on my contributions! The first pack I created digitally, and the second pack is hand painted. My son and I had a mixed media art session today, so much fun! I included one of the papers my son painted as well. No links yet, but I wanted to share what I've got so far smiley

Marisa - My suggestion for February's Mixed Media Blog Train - what about CHERISH?

I have posted the links for my contribution in the finished list. Really enjoyed this thank you Marisa.

Everything is looking great everyone!

That's awesome!!! Great job!

love this Idea!! How about talk about:
faith/spirituality
heal/miracle
pain/suffering

Chitra, this is so beautiful!

Chitra I was unable to get AI to recognise Hex codes. I guess it will eventually. The closest I could get for this palette was using the word Dusky in front of some of the colours and that seemed to work.

Chitra and Mary - I'm not an AI guru at all, but I would assume you could recolor the items that you generate in the same way you recolor items in a photo, right? If I'm not making sense just ignore me lol - I guess I'm not sure what process you guys use to create your items! smiley

Yes Kelly you are correct, I tweak colours if they are not quite right smiley

Booyah, amazing, Chitra! smiley I can see your stunning creations as wall art pieces and much more. What AI model are you using? Firefly with Illustrator is not too bad with hexes. There is a link to a tut in the LDT 3 challenge.

What a great idea Marisa, I love Mixed Media anything! lol!

Here's what I've got coming...I don't have the downloads ready yet, but will soon. I spent so much time on it lol - I'm ready for bed!! The papers I did are further up in the thread.

And I made a layout with it and created a quickpage too:
