Can I use Adobe Bridge or Photoshop to add metadata to files

Hi all,
I've seen different things where designers use one note or just test files to keep track of what resources they used to make a new design. I would love it if there was a way to attach the ID number of used items to the metadata of the new item made. Has anyone used that? I'm like a mad scientist and can often lose track of files and papers I've made and I would love it if I always had it attached to the new file made.

This may not be possible, but I figured if anyone would know it would be you great Photoshop experts!
