Object Extraction in Photoshop

I didn't see a tutorial for this. However, I was wondering where object extraction is actually located. lol I'd like to try it out in comparison to Paintshop Pro. Thanks in advance for your help! smiley

There are several ways for extracting in PS. The latest one is the Object Selection tool. It does a pretty good job usually.

Then there is the Quick Selection tool.

Also I have had decent success with the Magnetic Lasso tool.

And the most used method is the trusty ol' Pen tool.

So you can pick your poison smiley And perhaps there are other ways I am not aware of. I use a combination of the above as it really depends on the photo/image of the extraction.

Thanks for the various ways. That's a lot to get used to. lol What about the one where you draw an outline in a neon color (green, I think)? Is that still with the program?

We don't have a tutorial because I'm not great at extraction. I just use the eraser tool.

I switch between object extraction and the eraser tool in PSP. I suppose I can try it that way in PS, too.

I use scissors.
I've never used the PS options a lot coz apart from actual photo manipulation I do very little in PS and use PSE for scrapbooking rather than PS.

@Bina Wow, I just tested Scissors. That works really well! Thank you for the tip, appreciate it!

Glad it works out for you. I smiley it coz it saves a lot of time.

Christina, my favorite way to extract, in PSP, for "normal" elements (not the fancy ones like hair), is explained here:

Thank you, Carole! I'll give that one a try tomorrow.

Wow thanks Bina, that's awesome. I don't like the folders of WIN10 either. The other offers are also great. especially remove electric wires or skin spots that it looks natural, I also like. Immediately saved!
