Text Spacing issue

Text Spacing issue

So I recently developed an issue with my text function in my Photoshop Elements 15. I was in the middle of a project and did some journaling, then went to create a new text box and all of the words just ran together. The Leading is fine (vertical lines are the issue). It's like the spacing between characters is totally off. Some Googling is say Kerning (?) but Elements is not supposed to have this function. I read some help sites that suggested turning on Asian text because it allowed for adjustments to spacing but this would tighten them not spread them out.

Here is a link to the google file showing the screenshot of the issue I'm having in case I"m not clear (hopefully I'm overlooking something simple!).

Help ladies! I've made great progress over the last few weeks and everything has come to a halt!

I was able to resolve my issue by opening a previous layout (.psd format) and typing my text and moving it over to the new file.

In the older versions, there is no way of fixing the issues I was having, but it seems like an upgrade they've done in the new versions of Elements.

I spent a few hours trying to fix this issue and even posted a comment in the adobe forums. The point of this post is to pass along a word of warning if you were to go to their forums for community support. After I posted my issues my inbox was flooded with spam emails designed as private messages from adobe. The emails are totally legit but the content was not. The scammers gave me a fake email address to respond that was something along the lines of "adobecommunity @yahoo.com" with directions to remove the space which was clearly put in to trick the bots that review messages.

I sometimes have an issue in PSE where it won't let me make capital letters. The fix for that is to highlight the "T" text layer and hit ctrl shift "y" at the same time. Wondering if that would help with this issue? It is a fix I had to track down a few years ago. It just randomly happens in my LOs, but the fix always works. Just throwing it out there...

I appreciate the suggestion because it's happing in any new document I open but not in old layouts.

I gave it a shot and it did not work. smiley

I like Elements from the economical standpoint but I really miss some of the control the full program offers (and I'm still using CS2 smiley )

In Photoshop there's a text setting called "tracking" which sets the spacing between letters. From your screenshot it doesn't like you have that setting, but maybe it's hiding somewhere?

It wasn't a feature in Elements 15 at that time according to the reasons on why I should pay for an upgrade to the new version 😀. It looks like they have added it to the new versions.
