Where do you craft?

HI Everyone,

I have recently been blessed with a space for crafting for the first time in so long - a space that isn't the kitchen table.
It got me thinking about where people craft.

Where do you do your crafting?

I only have time for digital, everything is stored on my laptop and I sit on the sofa when I'm designing a layout.

I do digital scrapbooking at my computer desk, in my big comfy chair. smiley Coloring and diamond art are done at the kitchen table.

I crochet a lot, wherever I can...couch, bed, in the car, waiting at appointments. Scrapbooking is digital, so at the family computer when it isn't in use smiley

All over, but most often the living room floor.

I love the idea of being able to crochet anywhere....

I'm currently using the arm of my lounge to balance the laptop.

I will say a big benefit of digital crafting is being able to do it while sitting on the couch! But I also have a desk for paper crafting in our office.

I wonder if I can justify a new lounge for crafting hahaha

Until the last year (due to some health issues) I do both (Digital & Paper Scrapping)... well l actually do a LOT of types of crafting (Bible & Junk Journaling, Quilting, Sewing, Machine Embroidery, Cross-Stitch)... I am very lucky that my hubs is very creative. He draws, paints, music, etc) so... I have a dedicated 11x11 room in our home to all things crafty. I also get to play with a lot of supplies I wouldn't normally because of the hubs creative outlets... like Gelatos, Alcohol Markers, Wood Burning... haha
I love this place because there is so much access to talent, ideas, and product that I can use in almost every aspect of my creative FUN. smiley

I do my scrapbooking at our desktop computer in our bedroom. I also sew, and used to have a dedicated room for it. But then the second kid came along, so my husband rearranged things so I can keep my machines set up in our walk in closet, along with my clothes. I cut the projects out on our kitchen table.

Thank goodness kitchen tables are so handy!!! I kind of wish I could quilt also, but I also don't think I could handle matching patterns and things because I am such a hectic crafter! lol.

I've never tried quilting, but I have tried crocheting, which was a complete disaster after the first row. lol I was thinking about trying knitting instead; it looks easier with two needles.

My dining room is where I do paper crafting, digital scrapping and LEGO building. Somehow I managed to fit almost everything I need in there for those hobbies. I also sew a variety of items (lately mostly doll clothes). I have 2 sewing machines and 2 sergers in the living room. Basically in the time of Covid I have taken over the main floor of the house.

I was going to make one of the bedrooms into a craft room...... but.... rents have skyrocketed over here and mt son who is a single dad can't afford to rent.... yup, you guessed it he moved back home.... so far my kids have moved out 4 time between them!!!! I guess the kitchen table or tv table will do as long as my parrots not using it for his toys...... lol

You know Amanda, my kids are 8 and 3.5 - and I hope tht when they're grown they move in and out like that. How awesome for them to have a place they cn call home no matter what, that's really great.

Craft room

I have a craftroom. But i have to go up a stairs and because of My arthritis its getting harder to do. For now I claimed The livingroom table until My husband finished My downstairs room

Pff I craft so much . Nat that i am real good at all these things but good enough for me. At least i can be creative.

So have to say all over the house and nature.
• baking in kitching and getting it all together on the livingroom table
• painting in the attic
• digital scrabbooking on pc in pc room
• drawing in nature
• lego in livingroom
and so on

Since my kids have moved out, I have tried to pull all my "stuff" into my daughter's old room. It is now my office, sewing room, craft workplace, genealogy department, winterized tortoise location, and grandkids' nap room. To put it mildly--it is full!!!

I did the same Draw. Now undlottering all and make it more organized.

Decluttering is the hardest and most challenging task for us artsy people--we can use everything...maybe.

I have an extra bedroom where I do my primary craft - quilting.

I am lucky enough to have my own "craft cabin" in my backyard...a 10x14 foot shed. It was built in March and I love it, however it doesn't have heat or cooling except what I plug in...so far its a little chilly with my baby space heater smiley I am trying to figure out some new device to heat but it is still amazing to have my own space! (I was using my "spare room" but my mother moved in with us, then our grown son came home after a relationship ended...so right now I am using the computer in my bedroom when its too cold )

When we moved to the current house I was lucky enough to get my own Croffice (I borrowed the word from a YouTuber it is short for Craftroom/Office) I have all my papercrafting goodies in here as well as my Mac for running my blog and digital designing. The only downside it, the room is a UK sized box room and about a quarter of the size of the craft rooms I see on USA YouTube craft room tours. Still it is a lot more than I had before so I shouldn't complain even though it is a bit stuffed full in here.

Thats so true Draw. Every time i did a big clean up whay happens....I was looking for soming i just threw away smiley

The recliner in my living room, sometimes my desk if I need a larger monitor. I prefer being around my family and not shut in my office, since we are always so busy during the week.

I work with Precious metal clay sometimes and kiln fired glass as well as graphics and scraping, so I am all over the house.

I used to scrapbook in my dining room, but once the gameroom/school room became available, I took it over. I'm mostly digital now, and use my iPad for memory keeping, so I can take it where ever I want!

OK...you did ask...go get a cup of coffee or tea and settle in...

I have an art studio. When I purchased our home in Tennessee I bought a three bedroom home knowing we would be using two of the bedrooms for things other than bedrooms. One is my husband's music studio, the other is my art studio. It is very cozy and filled with soft light. The window faces southeast so anytime after 11am I get blazing sunlight and need to close the curtains then I have soft filtered light BUT the mornings are just gorgeous. My desk (a white folding picnic table) faces the window and looks out into our wooded front yard. We have a small creek on our property that runs to the right of the window which attracts a lot of wildlife.

This beauty was right outside my window this past May. She could clearly see me.

However, now that it is fall the deer will be more scarce...but I have these little darlings visit every morning.

So that's the visitors but the reason I love my window facing out to the yard is this...

Now, I know you asked where I do my crafts and I have given you a nature lesson, but what I see outside my window influences what and how I craft...so it applies. So onto my space. I will try to keep it brief...

This wall says a lot about who I am. I created the border cards at the top of the wall. These go all around the room and each card has an inspiring quote with a black and white photo on it of the influential person who said it.

These are people I, personally, admire. Their words inspire me to reach for the stars and to become better than I am. They remind me that I am capable of better stuff. It is therapeutic and uplifting.

The painting on the wall is not one of mine. My mother-in-law did it for my birthday. It looks like the dock at Fort Loudon State Park where we walk our dog every morning. This is my bulletin board. I haven't updated it for December but I will on January 8th which is National Vision Board Day...

Bulletin Board Fall 2021a
by Debbie Cutshall, on Flickr

"National Vision Board Day is celebrated annually on the second Saturday in January, on January 8 this year, to encourage us to set our goals visually. The day seeks to help us to reimagine and achieve goals in every area of life by effectively visualizing them to life. It is based on “seeing is believing” in the sense that if we can imagine — picture — something, we can move our lives towards that goal. The day was inspired by a group of friends who came together in 2010 to set goals and dream big life dreams in a fun and creative setting." (nationaltoday.com)

So, if I may, I would like to compliment both designer Melo Vrijhof and Rachel Martin for their inspiring label kits which I will be using to update this bulletin board. Melo's kit is called "New Year's Resolutions" and Rachel's kit is called "Felicity" which I'm fond of and will be using some of it in the spring because of the color palette. Melo's will work for any time of the year.

Next on this wall is my calendar which keeps things on track for me and is fun to mess around with.

I created the calendar circles, month, year and season pieces using a farmhouse-style (love that) and the appointment circles I laminated so I can write info on them with a dry erase marker and reuse them over and over. I made cards for important dates and holidays then organized them by month and put them in snack baggies - one for each month.

Below this is my art desk. I used cardboard formula cans to create holders for some of my art supplies. These cans were perfect for the farmhouse-theme as they have a silver paper on them that looks hammered. I just glued the label I created on them. There's a lamp on this desk for added light.

My other long wall (opposite the one above) has had my teddy bear and doll collection on it for about 3 years. They all have sentimental value for me. My husband bought all but one of the bears for me on special occasions. The dolls I purchased to use in my Etsy business. I used them for models for the baby clothes I made. But I am ready for a much needed change...

I watched Coco this past October. It's one of my favorite Halloween movies. I love it because of the connection that Hispanic families have with their ancestors and how the love lives on after death takes them. Being a Christian I happen to feel the same. The ofrenda really captured my heart this year and so I am in the process of making an ofrenda in my art studio...

Ofrenda
by Debbie Cutshall, on Flickr
We are who we are because of where we came from. Being adopted family history is very important to me. I am delving into researching my ancestors. My Aunt Nancy, who is Mormon, has traced our Norweigan roots back to the 15th century! So my ofrenda is split into thirds. My Dad's side on the far end, my husband and I in the middle, and my mom's side on the front of the shelf.
My husband has a diary that one of his ancestors wrote during his time while he was fighting in the Civil War. I can't tell you what a thrilling experience it was for me to hold a piece of history!

The last wall is pretty boring. Since it is behind me I haven't given a lot of attention to it.

On the closet door is our "bill tracker". I made it out of construction paper, page protectors and some left over bulletin board border.

This is an homage to my former career as a teacher...

Teaching was such a huge part of my past life. I can't forget that so this little spot reminds me who I am whenever I walk into my studio.

Okay...you guys can wake up now...

Actually, knitting is harder. Dropping stitches is a pain!

Oh my! I do diamond drill too! I just discovered it in October. So relaxing and fun. I also color...let's share! Not pages because that's illegal but completed drawings. I'd love to see what you do. Here's my coloring book collection. What do you like to color? Should we start a separate thread for this? I don't want to hijack this one.
