hi, new here

hi i'm Ruby aka Stormlight - i live in southern CA and in real life, i work for a small eye clinic. i'm the proud aunt of four, ages ranging from 25 to 8. i am also a cat mom (see profile pic cuz she takes prettier photos than me lol).

i am mainly a hobby tagger but i work for a few scrap kit designers who sell to the tagging community and i am working on getting my own start in designing kits for sale.

for hobbies not involving digital scrapkits, i am an adult colorist, rock painter (the hide-painted-rocks game is a big deal where i live) and occasional junk journaler. i also read a ton, and i'm a big time Trekkie and scifi fan.

i look forward to learning my way around here and checking out all the cool supplies I can use in future.

It's nice to see yet another Trekkie on here! lol I'm more of a Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager, and Enterprise fan, though. I'm a subscriber to The Delta Flyers podcast on Patreon--Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill are hilarious! Currently reading the Voyager novels. I color and do diamond painting for anxiety relief. Nice meeting you!

How do you know if painted rocks is a big deal where you are? Do you just find them? It sounds really cool!

Deep Space Nine is my absolute favorite of the Trek series. It's embarrassing how many times I've seen all the shows in that series.

Never be embarrassed about watching Star Trek! When DS9 first premiered, I remember thinking, "What could they possibly do to make this interesting on a space station?" Boy, was I ever wrong. It turned out fantastic.

@Marisa - Facebook seems to be the best place for rock hunting groups. someone in Arizona started the trend and it took off. usually you can put in "[your city/community] Rocks" and you are likely to find a group of fellow rock finders/painters. the key is to leave one side unpainted and put a message on that side in paint marker; that way anyone who finds it will hopefully participate. on most that i have found and what i write is some variation of "[my city/community] Rocks! find us on Facebook! please keep or rehide".

the cool thing is, you don't have to hide or look just in your community. it is pretty worldwide. people will take them when they travel and "hide" them and then people who live where it was hidden will find it and hopefully rehide it and the cycle goes on LOL. a few years ago, my hairdresser and her daughters did a cross country driving trip to a family reunion. i gave her four rocks to hide along the way. shortly after she returned, a guy in Colorado Springs posted to our group saying he found one of our rocks--and lo and behold it was one of the ones i gave my hairdresser! he and his girlfriend had an upcoming hiking trip in Montana and he said they were going to hide it while in MT.

honestly it is just fun to paint and imagine where they end up. and you don't have to be a perfect painter either. i've done stripes and polka dots and random swirls and seen happy people post about finding them.

never be embarrassed about liking Trek smiley

I am very intrigued by this rock painting!

We live in a small town on Lake Huron in Canada. People hide painted rocks here too. You can find them along the board walk waiting for people to pick them up. Some have encouraging words and some have scripture verses and some have small paintings on them. We have a SunSet Facebook page and people will post their finds on Facebook. It is quite a nice feeling to find one. It really is a blessing.

So cool!
