Why some users will be seeing ads on DigitalScrapbook.com

Dear DigitalScrapbook.com community:

Some of you have probably noticed the recent influx of ads when browsing our website. I want to explain why we have resisted showing advertising on DigitalScrapbook.com for a long time, and why we have been compelled to start showing ads now.

We’ve never liked showing ads...
To start off with, we have never liked showing ads on DigitalScrapbook.com to any of our users. We have always wanted to offer the best possible experience to everyone on our site, including paid subscribers, general community members, and those who are just browsing.

Ads can be distracting and annoying, and we’ve always preferred to just say no to them.

But people are dropping their subscriptions because of tough times...
Unfortunately, many of our members have had to drop or pause their subscriptions recently because of the tough circumstances that everyone is facing right now due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

We’ve mentioned that small businesses are having a particularly rough time right now, and we’ve committed to donating to help those most in need... but DigitalScrapbook.com itself is also a small business, and this is going to be a tough time for all of us.

So we’ve had to get creative.
We really want to keep DigitalScrapbook.com going at full throttle if at all possible. That means continuing to pay our designers and contractors at a reasonable rate, and continuing to offer thousands of free downloads every single day.

Showing ads at this time will help us achieve these goals.

We’ve never asked much of our free members...
DigitalScrapbook.com is a Public Benefit Company, built on the principle of generosity, and we have always given a lot away for free without requesting much in return. This isn’t going to change. Our hope and plan is to continue to offer huge amounts of content and resources for free to everyone who visits our site.

But we ask that you support us now by embracing these ads...
We’re asking that our free members support us at this time by putting up with our ads. Not just putting up with them, but actually embracing them because these ads are going to help us keep going at a difficult time. We ask that you please not use an ad blocker on our site--as that would deprive us of any advertising revenue, and defeat the whole purpose.

Or make a small donation to browse ad-free.
We will not be showing any external ads to logged-in subscribers, or to those who are active donators. So if you find the ads really annoying, you can subscribe for unlimited downloads, or make a small donation (starting at just $1/month) to remove them and browse DigitalScrapbook.com ad-free.

We remain incredibly grateful to anyone who can continue as a paid subscriber or active donator at this time.

Thank you for supporting our community!
Thank you so much for your understanding, and for supporting DigitalScrapbook.com through thick and thin. We know these new ads will take a little getting used to, but we think it will be worth it for the sake of keeping our community going strong.

Completely understandable. It says so much about Pixelscrapper that you choose this option, instead of ceasing free downloads for non paying subscribers. For all those who had to give up their subscriptions due to the consequences of the pandemic: Hopefully things will change for the better soon.

Okay, I have disabled my ads blocker. ❤😊

Thank you for the detailed explanation. It shows how much you care about this site and its members. Not a lot of sites are like that and I'm glad I found this community.

This makes perfect sense and we appreciate your transparency and commitment to helping others. smiley

Just like others said it's completely understandable, no worries, and the ads are well placed on the website, so it's not distracting at all.

I was confused, thought maybe I had accidentally clicked on something...but no worries, thank you for the explanation! It is TOTALLY understandable, and now that I know they will be there I will expect to see them.

Stay safe, hopeful and well everyone! smiley

This is very understandable and acceptable to me, personally.

It's a tough time and we all have to do what we have to do! Thanks for telling us why - and thanks for your continued commitment to this wonderful community!

I understand - most sites run this way these days. Every little bit helps.

I understand and accept, no problem at all.

No problem, thanks for explaining smiley

Great explanation and perfectly understandable! smiley

Thank you for the explanation - I respect you for explaining it and your support of this community.

Thank you for explaining this. I support your decision.

ok! smiley

These are difficult and un-charted times for everybody. Not many of us have seen circumstances similar to this. We have in one way or another, all been asked to change what was our "normal". Thank you for once again standing out as an amazing company/group/family; and keeping all aware of changes and updates. We all must do what works best for our "new normal". Thanks again and blessings for health and safe keeping.

Thank you!

I understand, no problem at all.

All good! Besides, we can use some of them as ideas for LOs.

No problem at all. I understand and accept and have disabled my ads blocker.

I'm paying the $20 a month for commercial downloads and still seeing the ads.
Does this mean I have to pay additional to stop seeing the ads?
Thank you,
Annette

Thank you!

I've been here for many years now and this makes absolutely perfect sense and its appreciated your transparency and commitment to helping others. ~

No problems with the seeing the ads - but I *am* wondering why sometimes they seem to be a relatively normal banner-ad size, and sometimes they seem to be HUGE.

Teddy, I've only seen the absolutely HUGE ones myself. That's the only really frustrating thing, specifically combined with the half-second delay on them loading. I go to click on the login fields and end up clicking the ad instead (I'm too impatient).

@Teddy: The ad network we are working with sends a variety of different sized-ads, which we are not in direct control of: sometimes the banners are smaller, sometimes they are larger.

I know it can be frustrating to have the page "jump" when the ad loads. I have reached out to the network and asked them if there is any way for us to mitigate that problem.

Thanks for your patience!

No problem. You offer so much it is worth it.

@Annette: You shouldn't see ads when you're logged in as subscriber. Let us know if you're seeing ads in this case.

Thanks, Jordan! I can deal with it mostly. I just need to get in the habit of not being so impatient and clicking right away.

@Annette: Sorry for the delayed reply--I missed your post initially. But to answer your question: no, if you are a paying subscriber you should not see any external ads when logged into the site. My apologies if something is going wrong! Thani or I will send you an email to follow up.
