Journaling: When I was a child my mother took me to register for Kindergarten in 1982. I was beyond excited! Somehow I had really come to look forward to starting Kindergarten. But I was utterly crushed with disappointment when they told my mother that my birth-date was in October so I would have to start next year.
Finally, when next school year rolled around, I was on cloud nine. So when the classmates began filing into Miss Flynnβs classroom I could not understand why the pretty little girl named, Betsey - who might I add had the frilliest dress with beautiful little bo-peep curls to match - was balling her eyes out when her mother left. I was beyond happy to be in Kindergarten. Why was she so upset? It was so puzzling for my Kindergarten aged mind. Later in life I realized it was because she was probably very close to her mommy like some of my children are. I could see them doing the same - tho I am thankful they never had to experience that. | 1983/1984

I am in good company! Thanks Becky & Mary for your comments! β₯
It is a wonderful time for a child and I am glad you shared your experience with us, thank you Jess, love the LO.
Gorgeous memory page Jess. I never went to kindergarten but I had the same experience when starting school. Could not understand some of the children crying because they didn't want to part with their Mums. I had been dying to go to school.
Aww thanks Doska! β₯ And apparently Kindergarten is a commonly misspelled word, but being it's a German word it should be spelled with a T and not a D. Interesting about the word Zeitgeist...I believe I understand the sense of the word and I think the phrase "spirit of an era" would describe it. (Thanks for sharing - I always loved languages and spelling lol). I imagine the war impacted so much of life, as wars usually do, for many many years beyond.
Oh, I forgot, I like your new graphic avatar ;)
You're instantly recognizable, a sweet girl ;) I'm glad to read that you wrote the word "Kindergarten" in German, Jessica. I thought in English it was written with a d. I also heard in a YT video that the word "Zeitgeist" isn't translated into English. Thank you for repeating your text in the description so I could have it translated. Yes, I can understand that, I didn't go to kindergarten (you couldn't afford it in the post-war period and the infrastructure hadn't been built up back then), but I was looking forward to starting school in 1957.
