About Me
I'm a freelance editor, writer and photographer. I picked up cardmaking as an art hobby more than 25 years ago. That led to scrapbooking, but really took off when digital scrapbooking software started popping up on the market. Thanks to PixelScrapper, I have honed my design skills and do some small design jobs for hire, along with my regular editing and writing. I live in the beautiful state of Montana where I work from home and volunteer for a local non-profit called the Dylan Steigers Concussion Project. I also teach water aerobics at our local Women's Club. (Otherwise, I might sit on the couch all day designing!). Besides a passion for photography, I love sports, flyfishing, cardmaking, gardening, and walking. My goal is to try to learn a new technique or enhance existing ones every month so I can give back to this wonderful community of scrapbookers through the PS blog trains.

Digital Scrapbook LayoutDescription
Every time I got a new photo from my daughter while on a 6-week European adventure, it started out with something like "This country is amazing." So naturally, I chuckled when I read her text, "I know I've said this a lot (yeah, like every time I hear from you...) but this REALLY IS my favorite place." Then I looked at this photo she sent, and I gasped.
This was their view from their hostel in Cinque Terre, Italy (Italian Riviera). The photo looks like a painting anyway, so I gave it that treatment in this layout by creating a painted mask with layers of colors. I also extended the photo —the left one-third of it is all various brushes and cloning techniques to blend and soften the hard line edge of the photo to make it look like more reflection in the water. (Most of the brushes I used are Just Jaimee's summer blend sampler brushes -- a freebie 2-3 years ago. They are my go-to brushes when working on clouds and water. They are just awesome!) And yes, this took multiple days/hours, which is not something I normally do, but this photo is going on my wall in addition to inside a scrapbook, so it was worth it.
Background paper is Janet Scott’s CreamAlice, from her Reading, Writing and Arithmetic bundle (bonus papers pack), and the doodle line is CurvyLine2, from the the same bundle. Top font is AR Bonnie; Cinque Terre font is AR Christie, and Italia font is Brayden Sans.

That is beautiful, great job Julie
Oh thank you ladies. Yes, having a spectacular photo helps a lot! And Edina, I don't think they went to Toscana, but she just got back around 1 this morning, so we will "debrief" her over the next few days. :-)
This turned out beautifully! Having a spectacular photograph helped, but your blending turned it into art!
Dear Julie, I was very much waiting for your next picture. It's good your daughter supplies you with new topics. I can't wait to see Toscana if they ever go there. Beautiful sunset blending. Don't ever stop doing it.
Such a beautiful photo- great job with the treatment!
