Description
So by late January 1987 I was in Auckland where I stayed with my sister for a week or two. My first priority was to find room and board, and then to find a job. After several weeks of working part time at McDonalds, I found a full time job at the local city council chambers as an admin assistant and also settled into a small basement room as a boarder, in Henderson, a suburb of West Auckland.
At this time, Auckland had not yet amalgamated from lots of small boroughs into 4 large cities, under one large regional council. That wouldn't happen until 1989. The 4 smaller cities would be Waitakere (West Auckland) Central (which included CBD and the eastern suburbs), Manukau (South Auckland) and North Shore (North Auckland).
