About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

This is an OLD Photo for the Old Photo challenge!! LOL
I went though my entire Gallery (as of July 2022) and I am very sure that I have not used this photo before.
This photo was taken on Boxing Day, 26 Dec 1989 - the day after Xmas. My family and I were strolling down Queen street in Auckland, New Zealand because it was one of the very few days of the year when the streets were not crowded or busy. I remember that it was a warm day as well, in the middle of summer (Summer in the Southern Hemisphere happen over the Xmas holidays which means Sun, Sand and Surf) but there was a cool wind blowing as well.
Being the downtown shopping area means there were tall skyscrapers in every block for at least 1 mile. Shops are located on the ground floors at street level. Most of Queen street was in the shade except for the cross streets where the sunshine and the cool wind could get through.
At the bottom end (the bottom of the hill) of Queen street in Auckland City, there was a pedestrian mall with a rather large fountain. None of us had thought to bring any water bottles with us, so by time we got to this pedestrian area, we were all hot and thirsty. My then 3 year old nephew ran straight for the fountain and would have even jumped in, if his mother had not held him back. So he settled for drinking the water instead.
The rest of the family settled for buying drinks from the vendor in the background. All the other shops and cafe's were closed.
Does the fountain still exist? Heck NO!!. It disappeared a long time ago. I do vaguely recall seeing the fountain full of soap bubbles at one point during the early 1990s. Someone must have thrown some detergent into the fountain.
The area is now called Britomart Plaza and looks a LOT different to this 32 year old photo!! My nephew is now in his 30s.
