About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

In 1503, Leonardo was commissioned to paint a picture of a battle scene in the Hall of 500s in Florence. He was given the east wall of the Hall. Around the same time, Michaelangelo was given the opposite wall. This is the only time that these two great rivals were working on the same project at the same time.
By 1505 Michaelangelo had completed his cartoon of the Battle of Cascina, but had barely begun the wall fresco when he was invited back to Rome to create the tomb of Pope Julius II. His painting was never completed.
Leonardo also drew various studies of battle scenes, and also one oil on panel of the Battle of Anghiari. According to Vasari, he also found a new binder that possibly may have smelled bad, and also looked gross. Whatever the binder was made of, it did not work very well, and was soon peeling off the wall. Leonardo was said to have abandoned the painting soon after.
Historians believe that this binder recipe may have come from The Natural Histories written by Pliny the Elder. From Book 34 apparently. I cannot find any mention of a binder or a plaster in Book 34.
Several other artists have painted or drawn their own copies of the original cartoon. Peter Paul Rubens is the most well known of these copies.
The painting has since become a "Lost Painting" by Leonardo, since there is no current proof of its location or the original painting itself.
There have been recent efforts to find this "lost painting" in the Hall of 500s. There is a painting by Giorgio Vasari on the East wall of the Hall of 500s, but this painting has been repaired so many times, it is no longer considered to be the original. In 2012, some scientists drilled holes through the Vasari painting in order to investigate whatever may be behind. Their article says they found a painting in the cavity behind the Vasari but have not yet determined what the subject matter was or who the artist was. In 2020, some historians have tried to claim that Leonardo in fact never did paint anything on the walls of the Hall of 500s, but others have disputed that claim.

@Robynne: There is a whole universe out thereon books. You can have all sorts of sizes. You can also get like a journal soft cover in smaller sizes :)
Bina, Yeah I have been wondering about that. But really 26 pages and 26 descriptions? 52 pages. Will that be enough? I have no idea how these kinds of books work. Do they become Coffee table type books?
Thanks for playing along and sharing such an interesting topic, Robynne. This will make an awsome book, too.
Fantastic page and love your description. Very interesting
