About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

Please accept my apologies, but this description is long and requires a warning. This description may be controversial to you, and may go against your religious beliefs.
I'm sure you have at least heard of the Da Vinci Code if you have not already read the book or seen the movie. The book was first published in 2003 and the movie was released in 2006.
It describes a theory that Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus of Nazareth. It also supports this theory saying that the disciple sitting to the right of Jesus in the Last Supper fresco in Milan, which was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, was in fact Jesus' wife, Mary Magdalene and not the "most beloved" disciple John. This theory has been around since the 1950s and 60s. I first read about it in the 1982 book, Holy Blood, Holy Grail. It made a lot of sense to me. That book, Holy Blood, Holy Grail - from where the Da Vinci Code gets a lot of its background - proposed the theory that the Holy Grail was not actually a cup, but referred instead to the womb of a female who was to continue the bloodline of Jesus. The Da Vinci Code story continues this theory down to the present day where the last descendent of Jesus is being hunted down by the catholic church through the Opus Dei organisation. The Catholic Church do not accept the idea that Jesus was married in any way, shape or form. They prefer to think that Jesus was a confirmed bachelor in an era where men were pretty much required to be married.
The Secret Supper by Javier Sierra was published in 2004 in Spanish, not long after the Da Vinci Code was released. The English language edition was published in 2006, the same year the Da Vinci Movie was released. As a conquence, this book has not has the same wide spread coverage. It sold around 500,000 copies in Europe, and not the millions worldwide that the Da Vinci Code sold.
The Secret Supper is a historical novel about Leonardo da Vinci and that well known fresco painting - The Last Supper. The fact that the disciple John is obviously feminine looking, (and that Leonardo does use a female as the model) is not the big secret. The big secret is the order of the disciples in the painting.
In Leonardo's time, each one of Jesus' disciple had a temperament assigned to them. The first letters of those temperaments matched the order of the disciples painted in the last supper. Those letters spelled out a word that was heretical and blasphemous in the eyes of the Catholic church.
I have no record of what the temperaments were. It has been 15 years since I last read the book. I currently do not own a copy of this book. I only remember what the heretical word was. I do plan to buy a copy of this book when I can afford it. $17 for an ebook is still too high for my budget.
Leonardo da Vinci was not a follower. Certainly not a follower of authority or of any church. He used nature and his brain to make his own discoveries and form his own beliefs. He was also believed to have been a vegetarian. He was known to have purchased a number of birds and set them free so that they could not be cooked and eaten. He never painted the crucifixion in any of his paintings, despite the fact that most of his clients were religious orders. He also seldom painted any halos around his religious figures.
In the first edition of Vasari's book, Lives of the Painters and Sculptors, (dated 1550), Vasari wrote the following. Leonardo held some ideas that were not held by any religion, since he placed philosophical being in higher regard than Christian being.
In the 2nd edition of Vasari's book, (1568) the following was stated. Finally, having grown old, he remained ill many months, and, feeling himself near to death, asked to have himself diligently informed of the teaching of the Catholic faith.....
So the question is, if Leonardo did not follow the catholic faith for most of his life, then what beliefs or philosophy did Leonardo follow? The Secret Supper novel outlines one possible philosophy (or faith or religion) that he may have been following.
I have also linked an article down below for a second philosophy that Leonardo may have been following.
Whatever philosophy/religion Leonardo did follow, it was most likely NOT the Catholic church. I personally am of the belief that Leonardo never actually "came back" to the Catholic church, as Vasari states. It is more likely that Vasari only wrote what he did, because he was pressured to do so. There was no longer anyone alive who could dispute that statement.

Vasari published the work in two editions with substantial differences between them; the first edition, two volumes, in 1550 and the second, three volumes, in 1568 (which is the one usually translated and referred to). I do not have access to the 1550 edition.
