About Me
I'm not really a "traditional" scrapper - I am currently only scrapping my family history, all 1200 years of it! Images of distant ancestors are hard to come by, so when I can't find usable images (be it a photo of a modern statue, a contemporary painting of the subject or even a tapestry), then I try to use ephemeral images - coins, maps, pictures of Viking swords, etc. My aim is to turn my 50 page family history essay (written in 2012) into a visual book which combines genealogy with history because as I found out while writing my essay, the two are inexplicably linked - you can't understand a persons life story without understanding the battles they fought, the politics of the time and even the geography of 11th century Europe.

Digital Scrapbook LayoutDescription
Since this layout was about Harald Bluetooth (my 30th great-grandfather), I knew I needed to have a blue paper featuring somewhere so I tracked down an amazing image of a gold relief of Harald being baptised by Poppo the monk which would work perfectly with the colour scheme I had in mind. And since the blue paper I ended up using was so vibrant I kept the other colours muted and the layout simple.
Sometimes when I research my ancestors, there is very little information. Sometimes there’s a lot. With Harald, there was a lot of info but much of it was ambiguous and there are many contradicting stories. I made the decision to keep only a few facts as at the end of the day, Harald Bluetooth is only one small part of my family history and his story could easily have grown into many pages with explanations on different battles, why they occurred, who the main players were, etc.

Very Nice!
Oh that turned out very nice!
That is beautiful!
Very nicely done! I like how the layered papers and the frame transition your eye from that gorgeous blue to the soft tan.
I think your project is pretty awesome. I wish I could do that for myself, but my family history is lost beyond 140 years. So keep up the great work, it is truly a priceless gift that you will give to future generations.
