Description

St. John’s Church is located on a hill on the east coast with lovely views of the Atlantic and the countryside. A wooden church was first erected on the site in 1645. The first stone church was built in 1660, damaged by a 1675 hurricane and rebuilt in 1676-77. That church was badly damaged in the 1780 hurricane, rebuilt, and then destroyed by an 1831 hurricane. The current building was erected in 1836. The cemetery contains graves from the 1600s to the 2000s, including that of Ferdinando Paleologus, descendant of King Constantine the Great of Greece.
