About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

Day 39 - The End of Summer. Our wonderful West Coast adventures finally came to an end and we had to return to the real world. After a whole day od driving across the Southern alps and the Canterbury plains, I was dropped off at the Christchurch airport so that i could fly back to Auckland. My parents, sister and nephew would still have to drive another 6 hours back to Dunedin.
Unfortunately the family suffered another tragedy when my older sister unexpectedly died in April of 1993. she had some headches that would not go away and the doctors were trying to tell her that they were just migraines. She knew these were not migraines and beganpuhing for a CAT scan. Sadly she passed away the day before the CAT scan appointment. because she was just in her early 30s at the time of her death, an autopsy was required. The diagnosis turned out to be a Colloid Cyst of the 3rd Ventricle. This is a benign cyst that grows deep in the brain and usually does not cause any problems until it gets large enough to start blocking the flow of cerebral spinal fluid down the spinal cord. My sister left behind her now widowed husband and 3 young children - the oldest son was aged 5 and had just started school. Her twin daughters just 2 years old. They don't remember their mother that much. I am again choosing to not make a page about this as I have no photos.
The funeral was held in the small town outside of Hamilton where the family lived. She has been gone now for 26 years. Her children are now all grown up and doing well for themselves.
After the funeral, I went back to my job at the NZ Telecoms. I still hated it, and eventually rumours began circling that more staff cuts were going to be made. So in October of 1993, I chose to leave. I applied for a severance swap. A severance swap is where someone else was being cut, but they really could not afford to leave their employment. If they applied for a severance swap, they could swap with someone else who would take their severance and the person who needed to stay, could take over the job.
I chose to take severance, and someone else was moved into my job. The whole thing was processed in less than 2 months. I was astounded at just how fast and smooth the whole process took. This may have had something to do with the poor appraisals I was receiving so they needed to get rid of me fast!! Not that I minded.
I spent most of 1994 being unemployed although I did do some volunteer work at a school library helping to get their books fixed up and catalogued correctly.
In February of 1995, I finally managed to find a new job as a Media monitor for a Press Clipping service. This was back before OCR readers were common place and before Windows 95 came out and emails became the normal means of communication. Anyway, this new job meant that I got paid to read newspapers and magazines for businesses and advertising companies. It was wonderful!!!!
I loved this job and I stay here for almost 6 years. I only left when I got married. I dont have too many photos during this time, so I am kind of skipping over it. I spent most of my free time going to the movies and eventually getting on line and discovering the internet.
