My October layout is always a Halloween one. My husband and I love Halloween because it's basically a holiday solely for having fun (you get to dress up and get candy!). Our whole family dresses up every year, and everyone gets to pick their own costumes rather than trying to force a group theme. I then take photos of the kids on our front steps, if possible. I also include photos of our Jack-o-lanterns in the layout when there's room.
With the layout's color scheme, I try to make sure I don't do the same colors two years in a row. Last year's was mostly black and white with a smidge of orange, so I went with purple and orange this year, after spending far too long digging through the various Halloween kits I have.
This is probably the simplest layout in this year's calendar, and actually kind of reminiscent of the layouts in my earliest calendar, where most pages were only one or two papers with minimal embellishments. In this case, the purple paper worked so well by itself that I just added the paint, ribbon, and word art and had something nice (though the word art was modified, since the original was more wildly-colored; I masked another paper over it to unify it).
The trickiest thing (after selecting scrapbooking materials to use) was manipulating the ribbon so that it would go both over and under the word art, and behind the same photo that the word art was over, to make the ribbon more integrated with the layout rather than just dropped on top of it. It largely involved separating the drop shadow to its own layer, then copying and pasting select parts of both ribbon and shadow to be above the word art in the layer order.
This layout uses various Halloween 2019 kits from My Memories, most of them from their October 2019 blog train.
