Yes, it does but if someone replies/asks a follow-up question and I don't visit the site until the next day, I find it is too bad that it would not be able to know right away to respond faster. So if I am several days without coming, I won't know.
I think that getting an email notification would likely get the members back to the forum sooner and more often as they are reminded of something new to read that they were subscribed to.
It should still show up in your notifications at the top of the site by your profile photo.
