Crime Dramas...

Is anyone else a huge Crime Station junkie like me? It's almost like an addiction I have to feed. smiley

I love watching the stuff like "Dateline Secrets Uncovered" or "Snapped" or "Mysteries & Scandals".
I don't know why but lately it's either one of these type shows/channels or the Game Show Network. LoL

Totally opposite ends of the spectrum, but my two newer little addictions. I seem to be able to listen to them and still do something else/multi-task while they play out in the background. Maybe that's part of the enjoyment. But the murder mystery "who-dun-it's" are kind of rewarding like seeing/hearing a real life crime play out and then seeing them really solve it like the hard way... going through the years sometimes to solve it, not like in the tv dramas where it just all falls into perfect place in less than a day or two on their schedule.
Although, don't get me wrong, I do still love my crime shows, like Sherlock, too. smiley

Hahaha! I don't typically seek them out to watch but If I catch one on it's like an accident scene. I can't look away no matter how much it's going to gross me out or give me bad dreams.

Oh those are my companion's favourite. He will watch them for hours, and there are a few TV stations that run like, six hours of real-homicide dramas in a row.

I like them sometimes but that many hours in a row is exhausting!

I love those shows too, especially the ones where they show the forensics and detective work used to solve the crimes!

However, I suffer from depression and found, for me, it's best that I not binge watch these....so, be cautious.

I'm a crime fiend. True crime, crime fiction, whatever mystery show you can throw at me.

I'm particularly partial to unsolved historical crimes.

@Christianna: "it's like an accident scene. I can't look away no matter" --- B'wahahahaha... exactly!!!!

@Sylvan: I'm definitely more like your partner. I love the "Weekend" marathons where I can sit and do stuff on my laptop or play games and watch ALL day... Hubby usually has to tell me to turn it off and come to bed. LoL smiley

@Rose: I could definitely see that being an issue, especially the really horrific ones, or children involved or unsolved ones... could really make a person emotionally vulnerable. I'm sorry you suffer from depression. I had bouts after losing my babies at various times in my life and it can be overwhelming to get back in sync with life. Hugs and Blessings on your continued healing. smiley

@Trish: We could be twins separated at birth. I'm a fiend, too. smiley

Yep, love crime and forensic shows:-

NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, Midsummer Murders, Hawaii Five-O, Major Crimes, Blue Bloods, Medium, Lewis, DCI Banks, Inspector George Gently, Rosemary & Thyme, A Touch of Frost, New Tricks, Blacklist, Waking the Dead, Wire in the Blood, Silent Witness, Inspector Morse, Sherlock, Miss Marple, Prime Suspect, Shetland ................

Hubby and I choose a couple to watch most nights. I tend to be working on the computer while they're on and hubby sleeps through them smiley

Do any Aussies remember Homicide, Matlock Police, Division 4, Blue Heelers, Boney, Cop Shop & Water Rats

If you haven't watched it, season 1 of Shooter is fantastic. Second season isn't as good, but still worth watching. But the first season - WOW.

My family seems to be crime fiction fiends... NCIS, DCI Banks, Midsomer Murders, Rosemary & Thyme, the old Hawaii Five-O series, Poirot, Miss Marple, Sherlock, Death in Paradise, Person of Interest, Monk, Perry Mason, Murdoch Mysteries, the old Mission Impossible series, Cadfael,... and did I say NCIS?!! Yeah, we watch a lot on disc and Netflix/Amazon as we do not actually get TV channels.

Oooo, Person of Interest. I love that show!

I love crime shows, but tend to like the fiction more than documentaries. But my husband and my youngest daughter LOVE those. I've had to bail on a few that depress me like Criminal Minds. I struggle with thinking about just how messed up someone has to be to commit serial murders. Some of the British are fun to watch with my kids like Father Brown and Death in Paradise. I don't mean murder is fun but, well, the shows are well done. Castle, Monk and Bones are probably my all time favorites--sadly over now.

@Laurie: I'll have to check those out. Are they on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

@Liz: I agree about Shooter... We were a tad disappointed with Season 2 ourselves.

I seem to have patience for crime & thrillers only nowadays! I have EHDs with my favourites...Miss Marple, Poirot, Law & Order - Criminal Intent(purely for Vincent D'Onofrio...just crazy about him!!!), Perry Mason & many others... I used to watch L & O - SVU & C Minds but gave it up as the crimes made me sick...
Luther is fantastic, as are almost all the other British crime stories...the Brits are truly superlative!!!
Those who have Netflix, check out the Spanish & French crime films or series...really, really good.

My husband added Britbox to our Amazon prime lineup. We have enjoyed watching "Vera." We like the fact that the lead character is not young and glamorous. She looks real, substantial, and middle aged. She wears frumpy clothes sometimes, but she can clean up nice. Her manner is a bit sassy, but she shows incredible compassion and empathy... even towards her suspects. We get a kick out of her calling everyone "pet" or "love," much as we here in NC call perfect strangers "dear" or "honey."

We have found, after watching British mysteries and crime shows, that many American crime shows do not seem to have as much substance to them. Many British actors actually seem chosen for their ability to act and to evoke emotion, rather than their appearance. I especially enjoy the shows that draw me in emotionally so that I feel I am actually there, not just in my chair watching TV.

Really, Madge, agree with you 100%!!! Took the words right out of my mouth...appreances & star presence seem to be the last criteria to garner an acting role in the UK..., hence we get to be treated to be a part of really talented actors at work whose one focus seems to be to do their job to their utmost abilitiy.

so I am a big Netflix Junkie while crafting - Binge watching Monk,Criminal mins and yes British crime shows. But I must confess I really love the British Bake Off series.

@Chitra and @Madge: I know that's why I like those versions of Sherlock, etc so much better... Now y'all have me intrigued to watch more of them. I wonder if it's extra for Amazon Prime members to add what your hubby did, Madge. And it sounds entertaining the lady who calls people sweet names. I'm from the south, too... and we always call the ladies, honey, sweetie, etc. unless you're formal then it's 'Mam! smiley the men however seem to almost always get Sir. smiley

Shawna, I am thinking, with our Amazon Prime account, it was not too much a month... maybe 5.99? I know it was less than our Netflix was because he cancelled Netflix and did the Britbox and something similar (Acorn something or such) for about the cost of Netflix. We have played this song and dance routine before, so I am sure once he blitz-watches (faster than binge-watching!) everything interesting, he will probably cancel one of those and we will be back to Netflix until he gets bored with that. Time will tell.... smiley

Oh, another series... "Endeavour." It is about a young Inspector Morse ( his full name is Endeavour Morse). After seeing him as a young police constable, a lot of who he is as an older man makes more sense now. I actually enjoyed Endeavour more than Inspector Morse...

@Madge...Midsomer Murders, Luther, Marcella, Hinterland, Shetland...etc...etc smiley smiley smiley

I love Endevour! I saw there was a new season out, looking forward to watching it.

Thanks, Chitra... I love Midsomer, but am not familiar with the others. I must check them out!

Thanks for the heads up, Marisa... I will look for it!

I love all the shows you all are talking about!! Just wanted to mention, in addition to Netflix & Amazon, I sometimes watch HOOPLA which is FREE with my library card. I access it from my local library's website and it has some good stuff: Vera, Doc Martin, Poirot, Marple. (There is a monthly viewing limit though).

@Madge: Which should be watched first Endeavor Series or Morse? Would one spoil the other (as far as give anything away)?
It also appears that the first four seasons are FREE with our amazon prime membership, season 5 is where they start charging $5.99 month. So let me know for sure which I should start first. smiley

@Chitra I added Midsomer, and another... called Ketterling
The others are to the tune of $23 each season... ouch. My budget might have to wait until those are included in a monthly one. smiley

Shawna, personally, I find Endeavour more engaging. If I were to re-watch the series myself, I would watch Endeavour first, then Morse. I guess when you get to season 5, do as my husband did and do the free week trial, binge watch season 5, and then cancel!

@Madge: great minds think alike. lol Thanks for the tip! and info about which you would watch first. I'm gonna finish catching up on a few the hubs and I got going now and then suggest it as a next one. I do a little better when I don't have to skip around from show to show week to week with each episode. smiley I like waiting until the end of a season and watching straight through. LoL then I'm not left in suspense for too long except the season finale. hahaha

LOVE LOVE love the British crime dramas...Midsomer Murders, Call the Midwife (not crime so much...), Rosemery & Thyme (women in the 60's solving murders, one a cop one a horticulturist!) Sherlock, Morse for the American Dramas: Criminal Minds, NCIS (been half in love with Gibbs for almost 20 years!!! smiley ), Elementary, watched the early seasons of Bones, but got frustrated with it after like season 6...more love triangles then actual crimes to solve. meh! smiley I found an Australian drama, that skirts with supernatural/medical science issues along with mystery & drama (though its not an actual crime drama) called Glitch, LOVE it! smiley

@ Chitra - re: Vincent d'Onofrio in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The first time I watched the show, I skipped the episodes that focused on the other teams! I still prefer the older Goren & Eames episodes - and I much prefer CI to the other L&Os, although classic SVU is still awesome.

And now I've found that I can access US Netflix through my VPN, I'm working my way through Midsomer Murders again. smiley IT!

@So right you are, Trish! The first few seasons of SVU were really good...
