Requests for Behind the Scenes Tutorials

I'm fascinated with the color blending results of the various gradient papers found in kits, namely Summer Day, Good Day (incl scenic), Ramadan, Stars In My Eyes...even geometric paper like Bad Day_Paper Gradient Gray and Already There - Copper Vellum Triangles Paper. Too, the rainbow effect on an element like Stars Eyes Leaf 1 and the alpha in A Bugs World Journal Card 03 4x6 are cool techniques. Are there any tuts planned for a behind the scenes how-to on any of these?

@Cathy: I haven't done a tutorial using the gradient tool, so I'll work on that. But in the meantime, it's basically just the gradient tool (which you can find under the paint bucket).

Thanks, Marisa! I checked under the paint bucket and didn't find it there as I'm using PSE 15, but I did finally locate its quick access option via under the layers tab to generate a new fill or adjustment layer. So, I do appreciate just knowing where I can easily access it. Too, I don't know why I didn't notice it before, but next to the paint bucket is the gradient tool in the draw panel that enables more custom options within the gradient editor along with 8 preset gradient groups such as Color Harmonies I, II, Metals, Pastels, Special Effects, etc. besides the Default group to make edits.

Also, I look forward to seeing the tutorial shortly as I still need guidance to effectively use this feature in my projects.

I would love a tutorial on making an elements preview! It's so overwhelming to me and I dread it every time I finish a kit! I used to separate elements based on type and make several previews, or create just enough to fit on one page all spaced out. I'd prefer to make one preview with things overlapping and just giving an idea or taste of the kit but struggle so much with how! Maybe this wouldn't be the best tutorial subject but any tips or tricks are welcome! Stacking items and shadowing pieces are not really things I'm good at and my trial and error has led me nowhere but sideways. There must be something I'm missing!

I'm not sure my method would make much of a tutorial. I just drag everything into the preview and then move stuff around. If there are a lot of elements, I don't worry about including everything. The main thing for me is that the preview presents a good flavor of what's going on. I use these shadow styles from Sheila.

I'll have to give hers a try. Thanks smiley

I would like to know if it is possible to write inside a banner like Banner Template 008b using photoshop elements. So far I haven't been able to do so.

@Janet: Replied to your thread in the Software Support forum.

I would love to know you get lines so clean and smooth on something drawn in Photoshop, not on anythings specific just in general. smiley

@Katlyn: If it looks real smooth, it was likely done in Illustrator or a different vector program. Photoshop does not really do smooth drawing.

Thank you! I'll have to play with that program!

Katlyn, I agree with Marisa that the best results will be made using a vector based program such as Illustrator. However, with that being said, be sure to save anything you do in Photoshop as a high scale png by using the "Save for Web" option (if you aren't doing so already). This will give you much smoother results on your png items. Go to FILE > EXPORT > SAVE FOR WEB. Use the highest quality option possible (such as PNG-24). Keep in mind, saving high-quality images only preserves the quality of the image you already have.

I would be interested in finding out how to make svg files. Is it possible to make them in photoshop cc?

@Bobbie: I don't believe so. You'll need to use a program like Illustrator, or Inkscape, which is a free vector program.

I would like to know how to make better masks. I know the basic "how to" but I am never pleased with mine. Maybe if there was a tutorial so I could see the step by step process, I'd finally be happier with mine.

Here's an example: Photo mask

How to make a realistic tear.

Hi, could you teach me more about making journaling cards. I've started to make some on my own but want to know how you all do it.

Thanks Angie

What exactly are you wondering about Angela?

I am OBSESSED with how Elif can take an element template and add the layers to make it easy to change the color. How do you do this? I would love to set some of my frequently used element templates up like this but I don't know how she does it.

Looking to create a siggie, but other than they look just like clusters, I do not know where to start. Size? Save in what format? Is there a template? Do I need to worry about what font to use so anyone can see it?

Thanks for all your hard work,
Susan

Hi Marisa I love torn edges and so I got your brushes - question is now how do I use these, to make torn edges? Love to see how you go from black brushes to actual torn edges.

Thank you so much for your tutorials - I've had fun clicking on some of your other requests.

I usually just use the brush as an eraser and erase the edge of the page. You can also make a "white" layer and add that in too for a little more realism.

You add a drop shadow.

ahhh ok thanks will try that out smiley

oh yes! I'd love a tutorial on this too

Do you have a torn cardboard tutorial already? Like those frames in kit # 205315? Would it be just a torn paper, with the cardboard paper underneath?

Thank you.

@Sunny: The ones on the site right now I believe are all scanned. But what you describe is how I would go about creating one digitally.

@ Marisa, I gave the working theory a try, and this is what I came up with. Not bad, but I need to scan some different corrugated cardboard to get a better texture. Not happy with the bottom part. thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sunny, your torn corrugated cardboard turned out beautifully!

I haven't tried to make it from scratch, I've always just used torn bits I find on the internet. I might give this a go too... it will open up a lot more options on what we can create.

It's looking good Sunny!
