10 Tips to Using Evernote

evernote

After last week's post about using Evernote for recipe organization, I thought it might be helpful to share a bit more about this very useful tool.

1.

Evernote 06

Organize your notes into notebooks. And don't forget you can have a notebook of notebooks.
(Find "Add Notebook" under "File.")

2.

Evernote 13

There are many kinds of notes you can make, not just text.

3.

Evernote 07

Change the view of your notes here, to help you best visualize your different notebooks.

4.

Evernote 08

Click on this little arrow to display more info about the note,
such as the web URL it was clipped from and its tags.

Evernote 09

Click on the little arrow again to display more info about the note.

5.

Evernote 10

This arrow will display more options for the note as well,
such as attaching a file or recording a note.

6.

Evernote 11

One of my favorite features is this little icon.

Evernote 12

This will make a little do to list which you can check off.
Just hit return after each list item and another check box will appear.

7.

Evernote 14

Easily share your note.

8.

Evernote 01

Easily save just what you want from the web by highlighting it and clicking on your Evernote button.
(You can also right click on the selection for Evernote options.)

Evernote 02

Evernote usually gets the right notebook, but you have the chance the pick which one you want and add tags.

9.

Evernote 03

You can also click on the "Clearly" icon to see a post without all the distractions that usually surround it.

Evernote 04

And from this view you can also clip something to Evernote.

10.

Evernote 15

Don't worry about the survival of Evernote. You can easily export your notes to another program if you choose.

It would be amiss to finish without at least mentioning graphics. Today I want to just briefly point to our great swathe of SVG graphics you can find right here: https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/file-formats/svg. SVG is greatly popular in particular with people that like to use cutting machines. If that's you, you should pop over and at least take a look.

Thank you Meg..I wondered if you could move files around like that..so cool! I officially have 8 files now in Evernote and I just love it!! The only thing I can't figure out how to do is make sub folders. When I try it switches the file and the sub file around and then I have to delete it over and over and try again. I don't know what I am doing wrong there. Anyhoo..just wanted to say thanks so much to Marisa for introducing us to this great tool!

@Lana, one of the best things about Evernote is that you can add or remove tags anytime, and you can move a tag between notebooks - so if you don't get it setup "right" at first, it's easy to change your mind :)

I LOVE Evernote!!! I save and tag all my knitting patterns :) I haven't scanned the ones that are in physical books yet - but I will someday, so they can be searchable!! :)
