Traveling Around Jordan: Wadi Dana

By Marisa Lerin Fri, 03/29/2013 - 03:02

This last week we had the chance to get out of the city and do a little camping. We revisited several favorite places, and I thought this would be a good chance to get back to showing you around the great country of Jordan.

We spent two nights camping at the Wadi Dana nature preserve. The campsite is a little more than two hours from Amman.

Layout Critique #3

By Marisa Lerin Tue, 03/19/2013 - 01:34

This week's layout comes from Jan.

Please follow the directions carefully. Be specific and make a "good feeling sandwich" (something you like, something you'd improve, something you like). Comments that do not follow the guidelines may be deleted.

Extreme File Sharing & Online Backup - comment to win!

By Marisa Lerin Wed, 03/13/2013 - 00:39

Today I am going to try and tackle a complicated issue, and our somewhat complicated method of dealing with it. These methods might seem a bit complicated for a lot of you, but this is the internet after all and I figure I can try and help out a few "power users" at least.

I’m offering free giveaways of the three great Windows programs that I mention in this post: programs which you can use to share or backup your files; read about that below, and leave a comment if you’d like to be entered into a drawing for a free copy of one of them.

Layout Critique #2

By Marisa Lerin Mon, 03/11/2013 - 22:34

This week's layout come from Melouise. It's rather nice I think, but there were some things she wasn't happy with. I don't want to influence your opinions by telling you what they are, so take a look and let her know what you think!

Eating in Amman

By Marisa Lerin Sat, 03/09/2013 - 06:01

I've been wanting to post about the food here for a while, but I keep forgetting to take the photos I need! But during the weekend I finally remembered to take the camera out.

While the following isn't traditional Jordanian food, it's regional, coming from neighboring Lebannon. Zaatar W Zeit serves traditional Lebanese snack foods with a modern twist.

For starters, we ordered manakeesh (flat bread with different toppings). Ours was topped with zaatar (dried thyme), which is one of the usual ways it's served.

Layout Critique Success

By Marisa Lerin Thu, 03/07/2013 - 23:02

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know what a success our first layout critique was! Everyone left some really great advice and I was just left to try and figure out what to implement. I didn't want to influence anyone with my own opinions on the layout before, but I'll share them now:

What I Liked

I Made a Layout!

By Marisa Lerin Wed, 03/06/2013 - 22:18

I used to read about designers who would lament about never making layouts and I always thought that was really dumb. However, what goes around come around, and I'm finding myself in the same situation! I'm doing a lot of reworking and uploading of older projects, and also I'm working on kits that aren't necessary applicable to my own photos, so I'm in a bit of a layout desert. I am trying to take more photos this month to have something to work with...and I'm pondering my Egypt photos, but I don't think the time is quite right for them yet.

Layout Critique #1

By Marisa Lerin Mon, 03/04/2013 - 21:27

This is one of my earlier layouts, so there are lots of things on it I would like to update, and I'm excited to hear what you have to say. The photo is a special one for me, from my honeymoon.

Please follow the directions carefully. Be specific and make a "good feeling sandwich" (something you like, something you'd improve, something you like). Comments that do not follow the guidelines may be deleted.

New: Amsterdam Bundle

By Marisa Lerin Sun, 03/03/2013 - 03:47

Amsterdam Bundle
I'm slowly starting to run out of countries from Europe, although there are still a few left. This Amsterdam bundle is great for spring, and also there are some travel elements for those of you who are looking for those.

Spring is Here!

By Marisa Lerin Sat, 03/02/2013 - 02:54

I started a thread in the forums a few days ago about the arrival of spring, and no one really seemed to believe me. But I wasn't telling a lie, or even stretching the truth. The weather lately has been wonderful. We've been enjoying sitting on the swing in the garden, and today we took the table out so we could enjoy the sunshine and lunch. It's that perfect time of year when the air is still cool, and so the sun feels good and not too hot.

Layout Critique: Clarification

By Marisa Lerin Fri, 03/01/2013 - 22:36

After reading through the comments from my previous post about starting a layout critique, I wanted to make one thing clear:
