March 2017 In Pockets
Finally getting my layouts uploaded for March! With a baby on the way, I've been considering my future scrapbooking projects. I'm fairly confident in my ability to keep up with my weekly layout system, since I've broken it down into two parts, it only takes a few minutes here and there to make sure I'm up to date. The only thing I don't feel settled on yet is my ability to include journaling in the weekly layouts. I'm still struggling to find a way to keep notes during the week and then how to include them in the layout. I think part of the problem is that I don't really like typed text, either to look at on my layouts or as a format for note taking during the week. I would much prefer to hand write, but that is definitely the most time consuming and least fun part for me right now. So lately I've been experimenting with some different options, seeing if I can find a font I can live with. If you have any thoughts on how to include journaling, or keep track of it during the week, I'm all ears!

About Me
Hi There! I’m Marisa Lerin and you’ll see me around at DigitalScrapbook.com a lot. I started this site in 2010 soon after I discovered a new love in digital scrapbooking. DigitalScrapbook.com has gone through some significant changes since that time and it’s grown into this lovely community site you are seeing now. I am daily surprised by the turn of life’s events that has led me down this path. If you're new to the site, welcome! Here are a few tidbits about me that I hope will help you get to know me better!
I’m originally from Minnesota, USA, but spent a good chunk of my childhood living abroad (in Bolivia and Hong Kong). I returned to Minnesota to attend university, got married and then moved overseas again (Korea, then Jordan and 1 year of traveling). My designs are heavily influenced by these many nomadic years. I am currently back in the USA, now living in the great state of Oregon!
I have no official training for what I’m doing, since I decided very wisely (haha) to study physics in university. I am always learning new things about digital scrapbooking, and this community has been immensely helpful for that!
If I manage to stop digital scrapbooking you will probably find me watching TV, reading or baking. I also enjoy writing for the blog here at DigitalScrapbook.com where I talk about whatever happens to be catching my fancy at the moment.

Use your notes section on your phone or include it on your calendar notes section. Get back to it when you can.
I love typing and keeping electronic notes so I got nothing for ya. Sorry!
also, there are TONS of apps to record milestones and things about your baby. like SERIOUSLY a ton! :P i had one that was more medically focused and was great to take with me to the doctor appts. because they ask you like a million questions and I at elast couldn't always remember, especially about sleep/eating habits and diaper changes. i remember at the 1 mo appt the nurse asked how many times i changed a day i changed diapers and i just laughed! i was like are you kidding me? needless to say i found an app where i just pushed a button on my ipad every time i sat down with a bottle or when i changed a diaper. there was also room for notes and other things and then i just exported the information to an excel spreadsheet and printed it and put it in my scrapbook to add the information to layouts later one. you will find something that you think will work...and then you will most likely fid something different a few weeks/months after the Little One arrives :) i cant wait to see your LOs once the baby arrives!
Marisa, this is one of my favorite handwriting sites...

Some lovely layouts there!
Thanks for all the thoughts ladies! I'll keep you posted if I come up with anything that works great!
@Kayl: So exciting! I will keep you and the little one in my thoughts and hope they come through! It's such a delicate and intricate process, I'm amazed it ever really works.
I have three daughters and we have smart phones. Not only do they send me pictures, but I capture the conversation along with the picture.
Happy Birthday Marisa.
I started journaling about my son when he was born 6 years ago. I break it down into months and included things like his growth and new words we learned, and now its all the funny things he says and does. The ONLY way I've managed to keep up with this for 6 years religiously is to use Siri on my phone. I have an app for writing (I think it's called wordsmith or something like that) and I use the voice to text option on my phone to record stories as I drive to work. Siri doesn't always get it right so the hard part is going back and re-reading everything I "wrote" to make sure it tells the story and makes sense. I'm definitely behind on that part, but I've got the major details to hopefullyjog my memory when I get to that part if something is out of whack. It's helped a lot as I slowly catch up on my scrapbooking from his first couple years. It's nice to go back to a specific month and read about what we were doing while going through those pictures. Good luck with the baby- its amazing how much your priorities change when one arrives! And if you think you're busy now, just wait- we had no idea! LOL! Baby number 2 is on the way for us and I can't decide if I should continue with one journal and include both kids or try to make one for each (which I'm pretty sure I don't have time!) :-)
There are plenty of apps that can turn your own handwriting into font. I've never personally used them but I know there was a discussion about a few in the forums and people were raving about them. One thing we do is keep bullet point style notes in our phones and tablets for things we'd like to journal about later and don't want to forget. When you have a new baby the first few months go by in such a blur and there will be so much to keep up with that it's helpful to take notes of the things you want to include in your books and blogs. If you would rather have truly handwritten journaling in your books then just keep a journal and scan the pages into your computer. I have a friend who journals about her kids and family life every night before bed and then sets aside about 20-30 minutes every Sunday to scan her journal pages from the week before. When she has free time she can just add the scanned journal pages to her weekly scrapbook and her family blog.
Maybe make a font of your actual handwriting and use that? Or just leave out the journaling and when you print them - handwrite the journaling in. You could maybe make a JC that is fancily decorated or has cute wordart (or several pocket cards) that has simple things like "___ weeks along", "main complaint/symptom _____", Craving ____", etc and either handwrite or use a handwritten font (either your own or other) to fill them in.
I don't really like computer-looking fonts myself, certainly not as the main text at least so I tend to go for the handwritten looking ones. This is all on my mind, too now so I'm looking forward to other responses! I just found out a few days ago that I'm expecting! (with a history of miscarriage I'm trying not to get too excited, especially since it's still very early, but we're hopeful this one will stick ♥)
